Default Princess disembarking

My boyfriend and I are sailing on the Crown Princess out of New York. We are fortunate enough to be able to drive there and back. Will we be able to disembark earlier and easier since we can carry our own luggage off by ourselves? I thought I had heard this. If so, how does that work? Thanks

First, do not put your bags in the passageway the night before. You will be the first group off the ship. You have to lug all your bags yourself off the ship.

Plan on getting off around 0730 (or maybe a tad earlier).

After that clear immigration and customs and you are on your way.

Irish shark is right up to a point. But it is not as simple as just not putting your luggage out. You have to make arrangements with the pursur's office and get special tags for your luggage. Also if you need to know, there is plenty of parking spaces at the Red Hook terminal.

Two/three days before we disembarked, the ship(s) sent a note to every cabin asking what arrangements they had for disembarkation. On the sheet was a line for self-disembarkation. The night before, luggage tags were delivered. If you had the self-disembarkation the tags were white. No purser involved.

On the last cruise, there was no self-disembarkation in Buenos Aires. This was because you had to take a shuttle bus to the terminal and there was no room for luggage. Unless you had a post-cruise package with Princess, your bags went to the terminal for pickup.

Apparently on Grand Princess, if you have a balcony, you can leave any time you like ;o)

Wishing them both a rapid recovery

We did this on the Island Princess. Went to the Pursers desk and told him we wanted to take out luggage with us and get off 1st. They gave us a small card without tags that we presented when leaving with the 1st group. Very easy and we were out of the ship at 8:30 and on our way home in 30 min.

Hopefully, someday you will not have to be in a hurry to get off the ship. That is so nice to experience.

Me too! It was after a 15 day cruise. Husband has his own business. Missed the family animals. A little home sick.
