Default Formal night with anytime dining

I was just wondering how the formal nights are done with the anytime dining. My friend said there is no "captains night" designation with anytime, that makes sense, but otherwise is something special done or whatever?

Princess still holds the "formal" evenings. I don't know how the Captain's "Welcome Aboard" Cocktail Party has evolved, as it has been four years since my last Princess cruise, but they still do all of the other special events that are part of Princess's tradition of "formal" evenings.

The Captain's "Welcome Aboard" Cocktail Party is still going on. It was on the second formal night on our cruises and we had the Anytime Dinning.

The first formal night there are two cocktail parties. Just pick one close to your normal dinning time. You might eat a little earlier or later than normal. Also, it is smart to have a reservation on the formal nights as the folks run to eat as soon as it is over.

Hi redcruzer, yes, you can either phone 3463 (DINE) on your cabin phone, or book whilst the restaurant is open at lunchtime. Most ships operate a policy whereby certain times cannot be booked, but this has never been a problem for us so far.

When booking you can specify the table size, and sometimes position of the table. If you find a waiter who you want to return to, the Maitre D' may even try & accomodate.

Happy cruising.

Yes, just like you would make reservations at a restaurant of comparable quality ashore. There are two queues at the entrance to each dining room -- one for passengers with reservations and the other for passengers without reservations.

If there are no tables for passengers without reservations, they hand out pagers similar to those now used at many "casual dining" restaurants shore. You can then relax in a lounge or browse through the shops in the atrium area until your table is ready.
