My Dad, who will be 87 in January, is talking about booking a criuse to Hawaii in January or February of next year. Is that a good time to go? Are there a lot of storms at sea? I worry a bit, he gets a little turned around at times, and my hubby and I can't afford another cruise that soon, (going to Alaska in Sept) would not be able to go with him. He keeps asking when would be a good time, and thinks that would it be good to get "out of the cold" (we live in the high desert of Calif, not that cold).
Thanks for your input.
Hi Susan~~We have taken that cruise before, (RT from San Diego), and are booked to take it again April 3, 2008.
The weather is good then, and warm, but our balcony was pretty windy.
We are 60 and 58 years old, and we LOVE Holland America. The itinerary is good, food and service great, and tours are well organized.
Your father will be well taken care of with HAL.
My 76 year old father-in-law went to Mexican Rivera by himself w/HAL 2 months ago, and he liked it.
He will have a good time.
HAL Statendam 2x
HAL Ryndam 2x
Was on the Island Princess to Hawaii in Feb. 2007. One can always expect the seas to be a bit rough the first day or two out of L.A. After that they are pretty smooth. We had no storms at sea, beautiful weather, and lots of whales around Maui! Your dad should be in good company on this cruise as we discovered the average age of passengers this time of year on this sailing is about 70-80 years old. He will have a great time.
