Default First night on board and Formal night

Hello. We are going to take our FIRST 7 day cruise to Alaska on Saphire Princess from Anchorage. I have some questions for experts?
How many formal nights this cruise will have? 1 or 2 and which nights are they on.
We will board our ship on Saturday. Will they offer a dinner on Saturday or just a buffet?
Thank you

There will be 2 formal nights, usually on days when you are at sea. Dinner the first night in the dining room is available and it's casual. Some folks may not even have received their luggage by dinner, so no dressing up.

On a seven night Princess cruise, the dress is usually "formal" on the second and sixth evenings and "casual" (or "evening casual" or "smart casual;" all are the same) on the other evenings.

And the ship's main dining rooms serve the "Sailaway Dinner" on embarkation day. It's a regular five course sit-down dinner with menus and full table service, just like dinner every other evening.

Norm.
