Default Mini Suite Balcony Privacy?

We booked a mini suite on the Golden Princess and were wondering how much of the balcony is covered. When we booked it, we knew that it was partially exposed to the upper cabins, but are curious if it is only a small portion or a lot.

It depends on the deck ...

The minis on the Dolphin deck are all uncovered and on the Emerald deck they are totally covered. There are only about 14 minis on Emerald.

If memory serves, the balconies on the GP are open to all from the passenger decks, one of the few things about the ship I did not like.

What does that mean?

If you're on Dolphin Deck the balcony will be totally uncovered. If you're on Emerald Deck, the balcony will be covered. As far as I know, (and I hope someone will correct me if I'm wrong ), the only partially covered balconies are the balcony cabins on Caribe deck.

Fern, that's what I said.

The other decks are out of play on this question as there are no mini suites on the other decks.

We are cruising on the Star Princess on October 4th. Our cabin is a mini-Dolphin Deck - D209.

I noticed that on the Coral and Island Princess D209 is completely covered:

Is there a website that has this information.

Thanks in advance for any info!

If there is one, I am not aware of it. You either have been on the ship or read it some place.

Yes, I agreed with you. The OP asked about partially covered balconies so I added the Caribe info even though they aren't mini-suites.

Hi Pam,
The Star princess balconies are set up differently from the Island or Coral. The Dolphin deck balconies are completely uncovered. People that are on Aloha, Baja and Caribe decks will be looking down on you.
Aloha and Baja are entirely covered, but are not that large. Caribe is half covered and half open - these balconies are the largest. Dolphin is totally exposed and then Emerald deck is completely covered - directly under Dolphin's. See this link for a picture:

The Star is a different class of ship - The Grand Class - so that is why it is not like the Coral and Island.

For Grand Class Princess ships ( Grand, Golden, Sapphire, Diamond, Star, Caribbean, Crown and new Emerald) - regular balcony cabins on port or starbord side of ships on decks Lido, Aloha, Baja, Riviera decks are sized 9 ft. wide x 5 ft. deep and are fully covered by ceiling overhang. No one can look down on you but those below can look up at you if you are standing at balcony rail.

Caribe deck cabins on starboard and port sides are sized 9 ft wide x 9 ft. deep and are covered by ceiling overhang for first 5 ft. When sitting under this cover, no one from above can see you.

Dolphin deck (mini-suite) cabins on starboard and port sides are sized 9 ft. wide x 7 ft. deep and have no ceiling overhang. No privacy from those standing on balconies above you.

Aft facing Category BB balconies on Baja decks, Caribe deck and Dolphin are regular balcony cabins but the balconies are sized about 11 ft. wide x 10 ft. deep and are fully covered by ceiling overhang. No one above or below can see you.

I have tried the two websites mentioned in this thread to view the balconies but with no success - can anyone help??? My TA says the
balconies on Dolphin deck have a slight overhang but if you are standing
at the rail - you will be seen (which is not surprizing). So I guess sitting
out in the morning in your PJ's having coffee or breakfast is not recommended????

Hi Sherrie,

I don't know which ship you're sailing, but as far as I know the only half covered balconies are on Caribe deck. Dolphin deck is uncovered, but you can still sit out in your PJ's if you want ! No one will take any notice of what you're wearing unless you're wearing nothing !

Hey Sherrie,

I found pictures of the balconys on Dolphin Deck under the "photo gallery" link. I went to the search function and typed in "golden princess" and it comes up with all the photos from that boat, which is the one I am going on. If you are patient and willing to look at a few photos you will find your balcony pics. I tried to download one but couldn't get it to link to this message.
