Default Skipping one night on the ship??

Hello!

We are taking the European Explorer on the Star Princess in Sept/Oct. 2007. The ship stops in Brussels, Belgium one day, then La Havre (for Paris) the next.

The drive from La Havre to Paris is 3 hours each way. Or we can leave by train from Brussels and be in Paris in an hour. So to save travel time and to give us more time in Paris, we are thinking of skipping out on the ship for the Brussels night and rejoining the ship the next day in La Havre.

Has anyone ever done this? We are wondering if there is something special we have to do to notify the cruise ship that we will not be on the boat for the one night. Any thoughts?? Thanks!!

Don't know if you can do this, but the ship will be well aware that you're not onboard and will be seeking you out. Everytime you disembark, you use your ID card (which has your photo in it so they can see who is using it) in their machine - if that card isn't entered in the machine for embarkation, then they've got big trouble.

Suggest you contact Princess and ask them that question. You most definitely would have to tell ship personnel that you wouldn't be back on - IF they allow you to do this.

Go to guest relations and notify them that you will not be returning to the ship that evening. Suggest you do it early, and be sure you have your passports with you when you leave the ship in Belgium!!!

Unfortunately, various countries have all sorts of laws and treaties that govern what is and what is not a legal itinerary for a cruise, often with stiff penalties for violations thereof. If you want to spend a night ashore during your cruise, therefore, have your travel agent obtain written clearance from your cruise line before you book any non-refundable arrangements for travel ashore.

And if the cruise line's answer is negative, don't do it!

Norm.
