Default Quick Question

Hi, im sailing on the crown princess in august. The boat is leaving on Aug 10th, and my 21st bday is on aug 11th. I read that this cruise line has something on the card that restricts me, but what if i have proper state id saying my birthday is on the 2nd day of the cruise?

thanks

Your card will be encoded as under age and it will not work at the bars. You will have to go to the pursers' desk and get a new card - assuming that they will give you one.

actually i just called the cruise line, and the guy said it should not be a problem as long as i have id. I can probably just get it switched the day after on the boat. I asked if i should bring my birth certificate as well, but he said no.

I just hope hes right haha. Ive had many experiances where the help people make mistakes. Im just really excited though, my first cruise ever.

Vipernyc,
If you have a passport then you won't need the birth certificate. Have a great time and a wonderful birthday!!

yea, supposedly their very strict. Im going with my girlfriend and her parents, and i was very excited that id get to celebrate my 21st birthday on board. I read somewhere that the day you leave is your age for the whole cruise. But according to their help hotline that isnt the case, as long as I can prove im 21. I guess thats more for kids turning 18 because of the whole guardian thing.

But yes you need to be 21 to drink, and you can usually enter the club at 18.

Odd as you are in international waters most of the time That would tick my kids off in the UK you can drink when you are 18

Thanks

As with many other countries that is also true. In the "good old days", it used to be 18. However, some folks under 21 would turn the ship upsidedown being intoxicated almost 24 hours a day. It just got out of hand and now the lines have adopted the 21 policy.

There are certain cruises on some lines that allow the age to be 18 on European and SA cruises.

If worst come to worst and they don't let you personally buy alcohol, you could have your girlfriends parents buy it for you. Might be a little more trouble, but at least you'll get to drink.

If you don't have a passport, then I'd definitely believe a notarized copy of your birth certificate to prove your age ... they could question a driver's license.

Believe you have to be 21 to gamble, but if you look the age, they may not question you.

Interesting Now in the UK if you board a Cruse ship you have to have a valid passport - are there some Cruse ship that leave the US that you don't need a valid passport seem odd as the US is now regarded as the worst place in the world for immigration controls

We were supposed to have mandatory passports for sea/land border crossing starting in Jan 08. However due to many reasons, this looks like it won't happen until maybe Jun 09.

To go to Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean or Bermuda by sea/land you do not need a passport if you are a US Citizen and the ships leaves from the US.

Any other country a passport is needed. You need a passport to travel by air outside the US to any country.

So immigration relies on the retuning ship only letting US Citizen out one door and the rest into the cattle sheds for processing, well that what they are like in Fort Lauderdale 4 hours wasted in immigration last time we called there, which left us with 3 hours to look at the EverGlades and no alligator's too could for them in Jan! still enjoyed it

Sampling LAX and the LA Hilton this year, then on to Hawaii on the Sea Diamond

Even if the ship won't allow you to do this, remember that you'll be able to drink at the ports.

Happy sailing and happy 21st too! OK it's early but so what. It's your birthday "year"!!

I'm not sure about Princess, but on Carnival we had the same situation with my daughter's boyfriend when he turned 21 the 2nd day of the cruise. He just went to the purser's desk and got a new card. Don't forget your ID!
