Default Back from Alaska on the Golden

I will try to just sum it up and then if anyone has questions feel free to ask.

We arrived the night before our cruise and stayed with friends in Seattle. Got dropped off in the morning around 11:20 we were on the ship and had my carry on unpacked by 12pm. I would say that Seattle was the easiest of our ports, so far, to embark and disembark at. There wasn't a sign of anyone that had gotten off from the previous cruise when we arrived. We also arrived back around 6am and they had started the disembarking at 7:30am.

We had 1 day at sea beofre arriving in Juneau. The weather was nice and we had pretty clear skies. We did the Mendenhall glacier and fish hatchery tour. Not much at the hatchery seeing that it was early in the season. The glacier was nice but you only get about 1 hr there. Next time we would just walk off the ship towards town and book our own transportation ( there is a booth right near the pier) to the glacier. Much cheaper and the shuttles run every 30mins so you can stay longer. It runs $6 each way per person. We had time to shop and go to the Red Dog Salon when we returned.

Skagway was nice. We did the Eagle preserve river boat ride. Got to see 3 moose and a few eagles. We took a catamaran to Haines and then a bus to our location. There we had a hot dog roast over the fire and ate before heading out on the river. We then had time to walk around town and shop when we returned.

Our next day was at sea cruising the Tracey Arm. It was over cast which is good for the colors of the glaciers. It does get cold and windy at the front of the ship so bundle up. It was beautiful. Our ship sailed way in and even spotted a grizzly bear, seals and mountin goat.

We stopped in Ketchikan for the morning 6am-12pm. It was cold and drizzling. Wished we could have stayed longer. That seemed to be the thought with alot of people we talked to.

Our last stop was in Victoria. We were there from 7pm-midnight. We went to town of a few hours and then came back. The casino doesn't open after we sail on the last night.

The staff was great. Food was yummy. We had a good time. Even the weather held out for us on a few ports. We noticed that the crowd was a bit younger then we expected.

That's all for now. I'm sure I will think of more later. But if you have questions , let me know.

Have a great cruise all!!!

Thanks for the review. We sail on the Golden out of Seattle in September. This will be our first time on her. Booked a balcony cabin on Caribe deck, mid-ship. We booked a heli-tour in Skagway. Can't wait!

Have a great time. It was a nice trip. Plus we got engaged.

Forgot to mention that it was some of the smoothest sailing we had ever. A few rocks the night out of Skagway but that was about it.

Congrats on your engagement! That is exciting! I was wondering if you have the menus and/or the schedule for each day. I am trying to figure out which nights to make reservations in the alternative dining venues. What nights were the Formal nights? Were passengers dressed in formal wear?

Please advise. Your review is great! Thanks so much!

Lucy, sorry for the delay in responding. Been catching up with work. I don't have the menus, the food was great though. Lots for seafood, steaks, chicken. Plus steak, chicken and pasta available if you didn't like the menu choices. We did room service many times for breakfast. If you write in any extras you usually get it. We turned in a voucher for a bottle of wiine our TA sent us and applied the credit towards a different bottle of wine. Formal night was the 2nd nignt, sea day and the night you are in Ketchikan. The dining room on the night in Victoria was slammed if you went before docking. I would imagine it was pretty quiet after we arrived. Lots of formal wear around. Men in dark suits or tuxs. Eveything from long gowns to tasteful evening wear (nice dresses or panysuits) for woman. 1st night of sailing they didn't seem to mind people not being too dressed in case you didn't have you luggage in time. Have a great time. Do you have excursions booked for each port?
