Default The Angst about Crown Bay in St Thomas is Totally Unfounded

We just got back from a cruise on the Crown Princess and find all the whining and kvetching about the change from Havensight to be totally unfounded.
-While there are not as many shops available as at Havensight, Crown Bay is undergoing development, and there will be more shops opening in the future.
-Taxis are not hard to find and it is not a long hike to get them. The drivers were there to organize groups to popular destinations. Prices were clearly marked to the most common destinations such as downtown, beaches and Red Hook. Downtown is $4, Havensight is $5 and Magens Bay is $9 for example
-Taxi drivers were more than willing to take you back to Crown Bay from town and, in fact, were crusing the main street announcing the ship they were driving to.

In conclusion, no worries mon, relax and enjoy the port.

I wouldn't say the whining was unfounded, but as time goes by it will improve. When Princess first started docking there, there were NO shops open and taxis were a problem. We were there on the 2nd week they started and it was a real hassle. Sure people whined, who wants to spend their vacation arguing with a taxi driver!

I'm glad to hear it's gotten better!

Nana I know it got off to a rough start, which is not suprising, but I was referring to those who were complaining before they even got there. One person on the roll call from the Brand X cruise board stated she would not set foot on the island because of it. (she changed her mind)

We were in St Thomas at the same time as the Emerald and they docked at Havensight as they need to dredge the second berth at Crown Bay a bit more as the Queen Mary 2 apparently scraped bottom on her last visit.

Guess we lost the coin toss with the Emerald.

Unless things have changed dramatically since last Feb. , there weren't many shops open for business at Crown Bay. We've been there on our last 3 cruises & it is starting to develop but it appears it'll take years to approach anything like Havensite.

I was there 11/23/07 on the Emerald and there sure wasn't much ... a bunch of jewelry stores. The only place to have a drink was a kiosk with some tables around it ... skipped that. There were NO ships in Havensite that day. One unusual shop where they laser photos on paper weights, etc. ... got one of my dog, Muffy.
