We're going to cruise on Star Princess, 2/19/08, from Buenos Aires all the way down to Antarctica, for 16 days. Any advice on what type of clothes to bring? I understand Buenos Aires average temps will be in the 80's, while it gets much colder farther south. Has anyone been on this type of cruise?
We brought our NY snow outfits. Boots, sweatshirts, heavy jacket with a hood or a watch cap, and gloves. Sometimes that was just barely enough. It is down right cold with a strong wind.
The "layer" thing just would not cut it.
For Santiago and Buenos Aires, shorts or jeans were just fine with a T-shirt.

Yes Marvia, we have done it. Valparaiso and Buenos Aires are actually about the same latitude. Antarctica is cold even in the austral summer (now) It may get up to freezing during the day. That's about it. Just take plenty of layers and some gloves and something for your ears. You will be fine. we had very little wind in Antarctica, but quite a bit on the way down from Cape Horn to the Antarctic Peninsula. Google Palmer Station to get an idea of what the weather will be. It is a pain to have to pack for two climates but it is worth it.
You are in for a real treat
