Does Princess ever offer discounts or coupons for their shore excursions? This is our first cruise and we plan to book excursions direct with suppliers unless there is a possibility of getting a discount on the cruise line tours. Any hints?

Welcome to cruisemates NewGirl
as regards discounts on excursions booked directly with ANY cruiseline, Good Luck on that one!
you're always better off doing your thing ashore on your own or book directly with local vendors..........depending where you're going, you can book many shore excursions much cheaper once you get ashore, at many ports you will find many vendors selling on-the-spot tours.
Something to remember
When you book your excursions outside the cruise line
If you are late getting back the ship sails without you, because they just don’t know where you are
We have had a cruise line booked tour and the ship did wait an hour for us to return
Shouldn’t be a concern on a short or early tour
Just don’t chance being back at the last minute
Murphy’s law is always with you, it takes no vacations
I've never seen any discounts, if anything they get sold out quickly. If this is your first cruise just be aware that the staff will try to tell you that it is best to book with them as they will hold the ship if your tour is late arriving....to the point of trying to scare you into purchasing with them. Now it is true and I've actually seen them hold the ship for 1 1/2 hours.
On the other hand, I actually know someone who lives on the islands. He was telling us when we arrived, that there is a 'code' amongst the independents to always make sure you are back well enough in time for your ship. They are aware that the internet is a powerful tool and one bad review could wreck everyones business.
If you do decide to tour out on your own, check on here to see what other have said about the independents they have used.
as the others have told you i also have never received or heard of any discounts on ships shore excursions.
To book with the ship or to use independants depends upon what islands you are sailing to, some are safer than others, some excursions you can only get thru the cruiseline, dive tours we feel most comfortable using the cruiselines tours and if it takes more than an hour to get to your destination by road we also use the cruiselines tours
nope
you can free lance and buy your own tours at most docks or on line prior to your getting there.
beginners usually shell out the money and do princess tours.
