Default Dining away from main hall

I have a question. I was looking in the Princess book and if I am reading correctly, if we were to opt for another way of dining that there will be a cover charge. Which is fine I guess, but my question is, if there is a cover charge are we also paying for the food that we order. Does the included meal only work if you eat in the main dining room??? Any info on this would be greatly appreciated....Natalie

Hi, as wrockbill said the only extras are the Steakhouse & Sabatini's Italian restaurant. We found that the charge for the Steakhouse was well worth it, but thought that the Italian was rather rushed & came away disappointed.

The free buffet is 24 hour on most Princess ships, and usually have a wonderful selection of hot meals (meat, fish, pasta etc) as well as cold cuts, salads and desserts.

If you are just wanting to grab something light to eat, the room service is also free & offers quite a good selection.

Speciality coffees are chargable, but usually at a better price that high street coffee bars.

Hope you have a great cruise,

Alan & Katrina

Amazing how we see things isn't it> We did not eat in the Steak house on the Golden because we talked to many who said the steaks were very good, the rest of the food very average, but we loved Sabatinis. Yes, the service, more than rushed was strange. We certainly didn't feel like we were being treated like special guest as on other lines with sur charge restaurants. That being said the service was offset in our view by outstanding food and selection. We choose not to get the specialty coffees and were glad as many in our group said they were not worth the extra. As for room service we found the menu extremely limited. to the OP, with all the dining choices now available on cruise lines it does get pretty confusing.
