Sorry for asking a possibly "dumb-ass" question.

Why is it that the "Island Princess" has done so many Panama canal transits lately??

Wouldn't this be very expensive for Princess???

She used do the HI run, but Princess swapped ships around. The Diamond, Sapphire and Tahitian Princess now do that run. So where does she go? The Island Princess is one of the largest ships than can transit the Canal and Princess has put her and the Coral Princess in there do doing the full transits.

Expensive for Princess? No, not really. Take a look at the fares; they are not cheap.

Last I heard it's something like $260,000 for the Island or Coral to go into Gatun Lake. They are called Panamax ships as they were built just to be able to fit - with 1950 passengers.

It's well worth the trip ... I've done the Coral 3 times and will be doing the Island for the 2nd time this November.

I am booking the Island for this November - LA to FLL. Which side of the ship is better for the transit, or does it matter?

Irish - it doesn't matter because you'll be up on deck a lot and going back and forth plus fore and aft.
