Having to provide a visa costs over $200, so why then would passengers opt for a tour other than the Princess one which doesn't require a visa? It all seems as what DENRUS posts on their website, just another way for Princess to trap passengers into purchasing their own products. DENRUS advocates simply walking off. I am feeling very tempted, but also fearful that I will pay an outside agency and never then be allowed off the ship for two entire days. Have any of you encountered this bullying from the cruise lines?
If you did your research you would find that All US Citizens and foreign nationals who travel to Russia require an entry visa prior to leaving the US. The cruise lines are often able to get a group visa for their shorex.

The cruise lines TRY and tell people they can't get off without a Visa... to scare them into booking ship's tours. That's true to the extend that you do need a visa to get off. HOWEVER DenRus or Red October supply the same types of "cover visa" that the cruise tour operators do.... so YOU DO qualify to get off the ship if you've booked with them.

We've done this ourselves personally several times.
