SKAGWAY SHORE EXCURSIONS

I am planning to book a shor excursion with Dyea Dave Custom Tours.
Looking for opinions, good or bad. Thank You!

These excursions tend to be very good and much less expensive than the Cruise line. We did not book that particular one. We used Discover Skagway Gwen's tour (Garden tour, City Tour, White Pass) and it was wonderful. We thought it was much better than the train ride. We were able to make stops up the pass when we saw something interesting (mountain goat - very rare).

I am not sure which one we took it was so many years ago, but sounds like what is being discribed. We were on a van, it was much less expensive than the train and we were taken into the Yukon Territory (just the start) The guide was wonderful, filled us in on the history of Skagway and we stopped whenever we wanted. In fact, more than 20 cruises and it is probably one of our best tours.

I would not spend money on a private tour of Skagway since all of the town's attractions are quite accessible on foot.

>> Whatever else you do, be sure to book a ride on the White Pass & Yukon Route (YP&YR). The scenery from the train is absolutely spectacular! If you book this through the ship's shore excursion desk, the train will depart from and return to the pier. If you book it on your own, the train will depart from and return to the railroad station next to the historic district.

>> There's a show set in the town's "gold rush" era at the Eagles' Hall called "Days of '98 Revue Starring Soapy Smith" that's outstanding. When cruise ships are in town, it has both morning and afternoon performances.

>> There's an outstanding walking tour called "Ghosts and Good-time Girls" about the shady side of the town's past that's also very worthwhile. It's operated by the Red Dog Saloon, a pub with a historic brothel upstairs where the tour ends.

>> The town's historic district has a lot of shops that sell a good selection of souvenirs and necessaries at reasonable prices, along with some restaurants and ice cream shops.

Norm.
