Default Shipping Luggage Prior to Sale Date

With all the changes regarding luggage and flights with the airlines, can one ship their luggage to the ship prior to sail date? Is this an option, what is the proceedure, and has anyone had good or bad luck doing this?

- It will cost a lot more to ship your bags than paying the airlines.

- There is no storage at the cruise terminal to accommodate this. They will treat it as "an unattended bag" just like in the airport. (That is IF anyone even accepts the bags.)

- You can ship them to a hotel. Notify the hotel to expect the bags.

From what I've read, Princess does now have an agreement with one of the shipping companies to pick up your luggage in advance of your trip and deliver it to the ship for you. I'm not aware of the price and haven't tried it so can't give you any information beyond this.

We plan to stay in Ft Lauderdale the night before our cruise & I had thought about shipping some stuff down there a head of time, but could not think of a clever & easy to get it home- without the surcharge from the airline.

I think I'll pack lighter or pay the airline fee. The Princess costs are a bit too "pricey".

Take care,
Mike

If you have time at your Port of Embarkation - You might also send some heavier, bulky items boxed (book rate - cheap) ahead by Post Office.......the Post Office will hold for up to 30 days - Just notify them.

Wow that's pricey but I can see where there would be folks who might make use of it.

Default shipping luggage prior to cruise date

We did this for a Cunard sailing out of New York - Cunard uses the same carrier DHL - shipping from California to New York and return was certainly expensive but was worth it to us (we are in our late seventies).
In any event, the luggage was picked up as specified and it was awaiting us when we arrived at our cabin. On return, after going through customs, we left our luggage at the assigned place and it was delivered to us 3 days after we returned home.

I'd like to do this again for our Princess cruise in September out of Los Angeles but it looks like its only valid on Hawaiin cruises - I have sent an e-mail but its been 4 days and no reply as yet.
