we are cruising on the crown princess in oct. and need some advice regarding shore excursions for st. maarten and grand turks. we have been to st. maarten before and have done the beach with english/french side (can't remember the name of the beach) are there any other remote or beautiful areas/places we should see? also, what about grand turk...never been there before....
a couple of really cool things to do in St. Marteen - ships tours - The Golden Eagle Catamaran Sail - this is one of our favorite tours to take. It is a beautiful sail to a remote island where you can swim, snorkel, take a walk on the beach, veg out on the beach, or get a volcanic mud bath(so fun!) the other tour is the Americas Cup Regatta - this is a total blast! you get to sail on a racing yacht in an actual race, you can crew the boat if you like or just cheer on your fellow crewmates. We do the tour in the morning, go back to the ship, grab a bite to eat and then take the water taxi from the pier into town and do some shopping
Not a heck of a lot there. Carnival Corp created a small beach right by the ship which wasn't especially nice. There is a huge pool with lounges and chairs as well as cabanas you can rent. There is also a "Margaritaville" there & some shops. The food & drinks were ridiculously expensive and bad. We were happy we brought a few bottles of water from the ship. I spent $30 for 1 hot dog (which made my husband sick) and 2 drinks. Having said that, the pool is really nice and we enjoyed the day very much.
In Grand Turk, the Carnival Beach and Margaritaville and its pool make for a nice day. In St. Maarten you might like to take a day trip to St. Barts (one of my faves). Very French and the shopping is very Euro and $$$$$$$$$. Shell Beach is nice (be aware of the continental style-no tops), and a visit to Le Select (Cheeseburger In Paradise) is a must.

On our last cruise to St. Martin we did a ship excursion to Pinel Island - small but nice. They have food & a bar, chairs & tables, you can snorkel or just relax on the beach. Very nice, we really enjoyed it! Google Pinel Island St. Martin & you will find great info.
