Default Mini-Suite versus a Balcony - Grand Princess

My DH and I are scheduled to sail on the Grand Princess in March 2009. We were just wondering whether it was worth the money to splurge on a mini-suite versus a balcony. We presently have reservations for a balcony.

Balcony cabins have a sitting chair and a vanity chair, MS have a couch, bathtub, 2 TVs and a little extra space and storage. The main reason we book a MS on Princess is for the couch which is much better for DH and his bad back.

Our last booking was our first Mini suite aboard the Grand and we certainly enjoyed the extra room and couch. The bathtub gives one a much improved shower space. Plus the balcony layout extended further outwards rather than a narrow rectangle. This allowed seating for four persons.

But the decision as to price differential must be related to where you are going in March. A cool climate negates the better balcony but enhances the extra living space. This is of course reversed if your are to be in the tropics.

It looks like you are on a 14 day cruise to the Caribbean. What balcony category are you looking to book?

Hi
I just booked a mini suite - aft - emerald deck. It seems you folks have more insight on this subject so will this be comfortable for 3 adults?
I thought it would give us a bit more space than the reg. balcony. Comments?
Thanks.
Safe travels,
NonaMary

That will be fine for 3 adults. Also, if you like your privacy, the balcony is completely covered unlike the mini-suites on the Dolphin Deck which are open.

Waay better to have a covered balcony for the mini suite... not that i really cared but one morning I was out on our mini suite balcony, Dolphin deck as we docked and I had 3 separate people comment to me later that day that they noticed i wasn't wearing pants while out on my balcony... (i had a tshirt and bathing suit on which they mistook for undies)
Also, if you are someone who likes to get up in the wee hours and sit outside and enjoy watching the passing scenery by moonlight... you may end up with an unexpected shower from above when they hose down the Lido!

For 3 pax, you are definitely better off with the mini suite... the couch is quite comfortable for the 3rd person.

I guess that I am in the minority as I like the open balcony. Too closed in for my liking.

Thanks for the input and insight. I kind of thought 3 of us would be ok in the mini-suite but it always good to get feedback. I'm glad about Emerald mini being more private deck as first thing in the a.m. "is not pretty" if you know what I mean! Safe travels, thanks again!

For three adults the extra space of the mini would be lots better than the balcony room.
