Default How to solve uncovered Balcony problem?

Anyone have an idea on how to cover or partially cover a dolphin suite room balcony on the Sapphire Princess?

My mom's allergic to the sun and needs to be covered. I've thought of a rain umbrella but that would be a problem with the wind.

I have not had an wind issue on the Dolphin deck. Try the umbrella; it might just work.

Why not get one of those umbellas that can be attatched to the arm of the chair on the balcony..it can be unscrewed when not in use...

Have her wear longs pants, a long shirt and a big hat. My grandmother did this (wasn't allergic, was just smart to stay out of it) and Madonna does the same thing.

Or just stay off the balcony until the sun sets. What's the point in having a balcony if you can't use it?

Why did you pick a balcony if the sun is a problem?

Default Thanks; plus reply to question

Everyone THANK you for your replys.

Since I was asked to reply on one of the questions I will try to reply about most.

Mom and I wanted a balcony because we like to sit on the balconies. I have never been on a ship (cruises = 16) that the balcony was uncovered.

There are portions of the day that we will have shade (beside night and morning). So we will be able to use covered balconies.

Thanks for the idea about pants and long shirt. My mom is so allergic that she puts #70 on her face and body (more then 1 time a day); wears long pants, shirt and hat. If she forgets her hat for more then 10 to 15 minutes she starts to break out on her face.

My resolution was to downgrade from the AC catagory to a BB catagory. I really didn't want to do it; but I had no choice because of the 100% uncovered balcony. I will miss the larger room and couch!!!

Why don't you book the shady side of the ship.

I love the older ships, not these new tiered ships (I've been on 32 Princess Cruises). We booked a mini on the Sapphire all the way forward and the brige gave us some shade during parts of the day. My Mom has skin cancer and can not take the sun either, but its nice to be able to go out and see the sail away or have a cup of coffee. Last time we had someone above us smoking, which I have no problem with, only if they had an ashtray and the ashes did not come down on our lounge chairs. I only book PH now and love it.

Maybe you would be able to change to a balcony cabin on Baja deck, they are all covered.....so are the ones above Baja, can't think of the deck name right now. You do look down on the other balcony's below, but it wasn't a problem for us at all.
