We are leaving Sydney 23 November on the Dawn Princess - our first ever cruise in many years and from this port. Would like to know the facilities of the departure centre, like lounges, cafes/restaurants, left luggage facilities, customs, etc etc. Any and all information gratefully recieved.
Also any opinions on outside cabins with balconies - in particular, cabin 507.

In most cases a cruise terminal is not a place to think about food or other facilities. The idea is to just get on the ship. The ship will have food (no charge) ready for you when you board.
As far as luggage storage, it is usually not offered but if you give your luggage over to the stevadore in the morning and then want to go and explore the city and check in later it should be at your cabin door when you get onboard. The question rarely comes up, to be honest because most people just want to get on the ship.
You can also check in, get your key-card, etc, and then leave again to see the city. Just be sure you are back in time for sail away.
For customs - chances are you will have to go through it when you disembark, but not when you are getting on the ship.
