I am considering going on a 4 day Alaska cruise in May, an am wondering aboot(lol) how much the deposit for Princess is. I was unable to find it on their site.

I can only tell you what I paid for an Alaska cruisetour + airfare on Princess. It was 16% for deposit.

I am sure there are others out there who are wiser than I on how they determine deposits.

The usual for a 7 day cruise is $250 per person, not sure about the short cruise??

On Princess, if you get a deal or "book" a future cruise while onboard, it is $100/pp. Also, with a future cruise, you get $100/pp cabin credit. That is all I have ever paid. Princess has specials all the time.

On RCI, it was $250/pp.

I believe that Princess is now charging a percentage of the cruise as a deposit. I thought I heard somewhere in the range of 25-30%, but maybe someone else can confirm that. I haven't done it that way yet myself. If I don't have any future cruise credits, then I watch for a special with the reduced deposit so I don't tie up too much of my money (I tend to book very early).

Princess Cruises has revised the deposit requirements for 2009/2010. The new deposit requirements will be based on a percentage of the cruise or cruisetour fare rather than the current flat fee.

The new deposits will be 30% of the cruise fare for all voyages, except the World Cruise. The deposit for cruisers booking cruisetours will be 25% of the cruisetour fare. The average deposit paid remains basically unchanged, with deposit amounts more proportional to the cruise fare paid. This is more in line with sister company Cunard, and several land based resorts.

Ok, must be something for 09 and 10, just went on Princess this past summer and it was the standard $250 per person deposit.

It should be noted that several times a year Princess allows their agents (I believe at the choosing of the agencies) to offer discounts on their deposits.

For example this week, for one week, the agent for our CruiseMates group cruise is being allowed to offer bookings with a deposit of $100 per person.

We have several pre cruise deposits with Princess @ one hundred dollars each. The object of this program was for us to book a future cruise with this pre cruise deposit being the only requirement. Regardless of the perks that are offered, we feel that the pre deposit should be the only requirement for such bookings.

With the pending economic melt down, perhaps it would be in our favour to forego the deposits and book only after the payments date for a potentially much reduced fare which should offset more than those perks being offered. Something for us and Princess to think about....
