Default Just home from the Crown Princess

Good morning y'all!
Well, we made it home from the Crown Princess, Eastern Caribbean.
Overall we had a lovely time, in spite of some disapointments. We learned a lot a napped a lot!

All questions welcome!

How was it over all. We sail on Nov. 16th and can hardly wait. We have been on the Emerald (sister ship) so know how the ship is laid out. As long as I have a bed and a snack now and then I will be happy :-)

Hi, I am glad you had a good time. I leave Oct. 19 on the Crown and am very excited as this is my first cruise. Could you give a little detail on the disappointments? I am travelling alone and I am trying to get as prepared as possible.
Welcome home,
Deb

Default Info on CP

Hub, some info on CP, food OK? Showers in cabins, hand held or fixed, good pressure? Did ship feel crowded, i.e. in Buffett etc?
Tendering ports, any problems? Thanks.

Some of the lines were really exasperating.- embarkation, tenders to Princess Cays, line to the water taxis in St Maarten.
The food was okay- not bad, but very few things that wowwed us- really just the pizza & some of the chocolate desserts- a sweet mud pie, the flourless torte-

THe ship is really, really big; it was lovely- but the lay out was frustrating- I kept getting turned around- the little pocket map was sort of vague-

THe best tip I can give is the 'secret' abouth the carpet runners- they have a red band on the port side, light blue on starboard.

Welcome home,
Deb
Debi, study the deck plans- learn to navigate between the different pools- If you want to watch a Movie Under The Stars, go early to get a decent seat. leave your purse in the cabin- all you really need when you're on the ship is your seapass, the pocket map and maybe your sun glasses -
We were disapointed in the service in the dining rooms and the food and some of the lines. Don't over pack - feel free to take a little powdered detergeant & make use of the launderette.

You'll have a good time!

Food was okay- not fabulous- Shower was very good- fixed- the dressing area was very clever- a good size closet area parallel to the bath.

THe buffet was crowded & laid out kind of weird.
THe pool areas did get crowded and so did the Movies Under the Stars.

Take very comfortable shoes!

Embarkation was a bit of a mess- lines just to get in line . . . About 1/3 of the key cards didn't work- so lots of folks, myself included, had to go back to the pursers's desk for new key cards.

We didn't go to any shows.
I found the crew friendly - for the most part . . as always a few sticks in the mud- some that were very charming- Guillemina in the dining room & Gidea at the Purser's desk- Bonnie in Crooners lounge.

My favorite bar was Crooners- even though it's a Martini bar, I mostly ordered their magnificent Margaritas.

Things should have settled down a bit & should go more smoothly for you. It was the first day back to work for their Ft Lauderdale crew . . . the 10/5 sailing was their first Caribbean cruise of the season. Understandably it takes a little while to get back in the groove.

We stayed at the Renaissance hotel the Saturday night before- The ship was right outside our window when we got up Sunday morning . . .
We also had a delightful Pizza at a place called Pazzo's -- across the street (& about 1/2 a block down) from the hotel.

You'll have a great time!

Thanks
Hub for spending the time to give us some info - you have been very helpful.
Now I am curious to see if these storms will have any effect on our cruise - any wind, flood damage at port stops. I am use to hurricanes and their aftermath since I live in Florida. I know some of these places are poor and do not have the safer structures to hold up during a hurricane or bad storm. As long as I have sunny weather to cruise around in I am ok if the ports have to cancel.

Grand Turk had just reopened . . . some of the storm damage was still visible- tiles missing from roofs, letters missing from the Margaritaville sign . . . It was actually my favorite port- the most relaxing by far since you could just walk off the ship- no waiting for a tender, or wter taxi or open air trolley.

Hub, You couldn't have said it better. I took my family on the Crown on the Oct. 12th sailing and I could not pinpoint why I was dissappointed, but you are exactly right about the lines, the food, and you had to go so early to get a good seat for muts or the shows it almost made you feel you weren't even on vacation. I was sad that we got rerouted due to Omar, but that did not dissappoint us the same way the food or lines did. I usually come back from a cruise wanting to plan the next one and this time I did not feel that way. We enjoyed our trip, just not as much as we normally do. Thanks for taking time to post your thoughts.

Default Crown Princess

Hi Hub,

I see you are in Ms. Where? I am in Lowndes County. We are booked on the Crown Princess on April 19th. I am debating on whether to drive (looks like 13 hours) or fly. What did you do? You mentioned the hotel you stayed at, were you able to park you car there at no cost? (if you drove) If you flew, did you fly out of Birmingham? Was there a shuttle to your hotel from there? You said you could see the ship from your hotel, did you walk there or take a cab?

Thanks
