Please advise: We're flying from Boston, Mass to England to sail from Southhampton on 9/5/09. We have transfers so we assume we'll fly into Heathrow...right? We'd like to purchase a couple of bottles of wine prior to boarding in Southhampton. Since we'll be using the ship transfers, do you have any suggestions for finding a place to purchase wine?
Usually the airport will have a duty free liquor shop or there might be a liqour store near the pier. Worst comes to worst, ask the driver where the nearest liquor store is since he will be familiar with the area.
Thanks....that's what we're hoping. We enjoy picking up local wines while in port. We're just concerned that the "transfer" vehicle will drop us right at the ship without stopping for a quick purchase.
you are correct the bus will take you directly to the pier, no stops, your best bet would be the duty free shops in either the airport or the cruise terminal, also depending upon your time frame, you might be able to check in and then grab a cab at the pier to take you to a near by liquor store
As Lisa states you will be dropped at the terminal and there are no options there to buy drink. If you were to catch a cab back into town it's going to cost you around £5 / $7 each way, but I can't think of any decent wine stores or supermarkets around there (there used to be one in West Quay, but I think that's closed now) your nearest store would be ASDA which is the UK arm of Wal*Mart.
Heathrow allow you to buy wine between landing & the main terminal, so I think that is going to be your best bet.
