Default Clearing Customs in Los Angeles

On our recent cruise on the Island Princes, we cleared customs on the ship and not in port terminal.

Everyone on the ship (2000) passengers were to meet at the Bayou Cafe & Steakhouse at 0700. This sounded like a disaster to me. I went to the Guest Services desk and ask if they really meant that the whole ship would be there at 0700. I was told that they were going to do it by deck and no the whole chip would not be there at once.

Wrong answer, at 0600 the line was already 500 deep. By 0700 it stretch the entire deck back to the Wheelhouse Lounge then back towards mid-ship and up the stairs to deck 9.

We were told that the customs officials have change the procedure in Los Angeles and the ship would be cleared onboard.

At about 0730, the FOUR customs agents arrived. And the fun began. By 0900 the line had moved about 25 feet. We had a plane to catch at 1140. I told a crew member that I needed to make this fight and the way the line was moving, I might make the 1600 flight. She told me just go to the head of the line and talk to the officer there. I told her that I would get mugged if I tried that and asked if she could escort me. I talked to the officer and she said just get in line near the front. When folks saw this I thought there would a lynching.

We finally got off the ship and made it to LAX with 20 minutes to spare.

I don't know for a fact if there is really a change in how customs wants to clear a ship in Los Angeles, but if it is true get ready for zoo.

What time did you actually get off the ship? Were you flying out of LAX and what did you use for transportation to the airport?
We will be on 2/4 to 2/18 cruise to Hawaii . Our plane leaves at 11:55.I posted a new topic about it. Hope you have some good advice for us.

We got off the ship about 0915. Got our luggage - that was quick. Out to the taxi stand and waited about 20 minutes or so. The taxi was $70 to LAX including tip. Got to LAX about 1040 or so.

This was Thanksgiving weekend and luckily there was virtually no line to check-in at US Air. The Southwest line was out the door and and past the US Air terminal.

No these things happen because customs and Princess tried to clear 2000 PAX at 0700 with four customs agents.

My color was called at 0820. I would have made the 1140 flight with time to spare.

I was on the Island Princes in April and we cleared customs on the ship in Los Angeles and the system ran very well. We where give a tag with a colour and number on it. Then to make are way to the theater, to be called to see the customs officials.

Not sure why they changed this system as it worked well. The whole thing ran smooth and easy.

I **THINK** that is what was planned (or a variation of that). However the disembarkation instructions had everyone at the same place at the same time.

Once those instructions were sent out, it was no turning back. As I mentioned above, the Officer at the Guest Relations desk said it was to go deck-by-deck.
