Default Movies Under The Stars

Hi all,

Does anyone know what movies are playing? Has anyone recently traveled on one of the ships who maybe knows what movies are playing?

Thanks!
Alison

P.S. Leaving on the 20th and can hardly wait! Yippee!!

They change them all the time and show several per voyage. It will be in the Princess Patter when you get to your stateroom if it is important to you.

I haven't been on a ship that had one for awhile. But, here's what to expect. The movies that are shown are usually movies that have been recently released to DVD. There are older movies shown as well(70's through the 00's). They may also show satellite programing such as the morning news and sports games. There may also be recorded concerts played too.

Sorry but that is incorrect information. Princess offers some first run movies and their Movies under the stars viewing system is unique:

"Unlike anything found aboard other cruise vessels, “Movies Under the Stars” is an impressive outdoor movie theater that Princess officials describe as a “Times Square-style, LED (light emitting diode) screen.” This is no ordinary TV, however.

With a monstrous 300-square-foot screen, featuring a 69,000-watt sound system, the “Movies Under the Stars” system is well equipped with enough lighting power to be seen clearly day or night."

these are not the same movies offered for view in your stateroom on TV. At least they weren't last spring on the Crown Princess.

No, the information is correct or at least to what I know. When I went on the Caribbean Princess back in May of 2005, some of the things they showed were: Meet The Fokkers , Big, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, and a Tom Jones Concert. The screen is used for most of the day and night. I've been on two ships that have the poolside theater and I was on 3 cruises for a period of over one year. Out of the three cruises, I never saw (on the newsletter or on the big screen) any new movie played that was also currently in theaters in the United States. The Movies Under the Stars may have changed. When you were on the Crown Princess, what movies did they play?

Can't remember, but they were certainly more current than the fairly recent DVD movies they showed on the TV channels. Only watched a part of one. Frankly we go to movies in the dead of winter. Never when there are tropical breezes and we have a verandah and a Margarita, or interesting table mates in the dining room

In any event I distinctly remember that there was a rather pronounced difference in quality between the in-stateroom movies and the “Movies Under the Stars.”

Default Now Playing!

Just back from the sister ship Caribbean Princess Nov. 30 to Dec. 7. Here's what was showing!
Day 1: National Treasure: Book of Secrets and Mama Mia

Day 2: P.S. I Love You and Hancock

Day 3: Swing Vote and Tina Turner concert and Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Day 4: Speed Racer and Get Smart

Day 5: 27 Dresses and 88 Minutes

Day 6: Maid of Honor and Wanted

We saw other things not listed in the Patters like Beyonce concert and Football on Sunday. The in cabin TV has Sam Brown on every channel. There were alot of Spanish channels since we sailed from Puerto Rico.

Just back from the Ruby. Apart from concerts like Tina Turner and Josh Groban, and sports, there was Mamma Mia and the Dark Knight. The former played 3 times back to back so there were plenty of chairs. Dark Knight played only once and I could not find a seat on the upper decks, only on Deck 15 where the muzak is still coming out from the speakers so I was missing bits of the dialog, so I didn't stay.

For those who care, Mamma Mia was a Full Screen version stretched out to a Wide Screen format. (Ugh.)

Default Just returned!

Hi everyone,

We just returned and the movies were pretty good. We also watched the football games which were exciting! While I didn't go on the cruise to watch TV and/or movies, it was nice to sit and watch some of this outside, late at night, with a warm tropical breeze. Ah, memories of cruising!

Glad you enjoyed it! I could use some tropical breezes about now. Oh well, we'll be on Maui for a while in Feb and March!

I've never seen a first run movie on CB.

On Disney yes but not on Princess.

WHen we were on the Crown in October they ran Indiana Jones & the Crystal skull, a couple weeks before it was released to the video store.

Go early if you want a seat!

I am sailing the Ruby in October during part of the World Series....what Are the chances they'll show a game or two on the MUTS screen on the nights they're being played?

If only they would keep the presentation "Under The Stars". What annoyance to be sitting on deck at ten in the morning trying to have a civilized discussion with other passenger and to have Batman's hemorrhaging vocal calls interrupting the days activity. You couldn't watch the screen if you wanted to for the sunlight was so glaring. Why project this nonsense during the day?

I loved the Princess Movies under the stars theatre. They could sure teach Carnival a thing or two, like, Padding for the lounge chairs, popcorn, blankets to cover up with and of course better, adult, movies instead of childrens flicks all the time.
