Default caribbean princess refurbished?

I read that the caribbean princess was being refurbished. I was wondering if anyone knew anything about the updates that were taking place. I read the atrium was being transformed into something called the piazza. Does anyone know what this is or has anyone seen it on another ship?

Beware any ship that is being refurbished. We just returned from a transatlantic cruise on the Grand Princess that was slated for a refit soon after we docked. Bull. The refit was ongoing while we sailed. Major portions of the decks were roped off and littered with material to be used for the refit.
The entire front end of the ship, top two decks, the jogging track and the tennis courts were closed while the carpets were replaced... for the entire three weeks. Both ends of the ship had new staircases being fabricated, and this involved hours and hours of welding, with the acrid smoke, constant hammering and then the constant grinding, which produced a film of dust over everything in the area, including the two adult only pools that were fore and aft...tables, lounges, water...
I know that the ship needs a refit... badly... but Princess should do it on their own dime... we paid for the full ship, we should get to use it...

Default Carribbean Princess

I was on it last March and it was in great shape. This year I am going on the Ruby which has the Piazza. I am sure that they are going to include the Piazza on all the ships.

Carribean Princess is currently in dry dock as we speak. Which means they are doing it on their dime. If you go to the princess site you can read an entire article of the changes they are making.

Does anyone have pics of what the piazza looks like or has anyone seen it to describe it?

The work they're doing now is replacing shower stalls, etc, and for that they have to dry dock the ship. The work on the decks, staircases, etc was done during the 21 day crossing. If you've been on a cruise where a good portion of the deck space is gone, and half of the pools are unuseable, and you enjoyed that scenerio, then good for you. For myself, having actually done that type of cruise, I would say that they are renovating the ship on my dime, not theirs. The fact that they are continuing the renovations in dry dock now does not change what happened before...on my dime.

So they are moving the casino, building the piazza, adding a new specialty restauran and a cafe? all while cruising with 3500 people on board and then they go into dry dock for a month just to update the showers? really??

Check the "etc" "edited for content"...and why is it impossible for someone to give legitimate beefs about a cruise without someone who wasn't on the cruise and knows nothing about the problems to stick in criticisms? Take the cruise, then get back to me.

You don't know me so how do you know that I am a 'edited for content". so hostile about someone asking a question. Were you on the carribean princess, I thought from you post that you were on another ship? So how do you know what is happening on this ship? No need for name calling, we are adults who havae the right to express an opinion.

assmith, thinking about the previous posts, I am sorry that you got caught up in the petty exchange that went on, and in the meantime no one answered your question. If you go on the princess web site and click on ships and then carribean princess, they have a video of the new things on the ship. It is a quick video but it gives you a picture of the piazza. I think the other ships may have videos as well, so if you check them you may find more pictures of it. The ship is due to leave dry dock and start cruising this weekend so maybe someone on the ship can tell us more. When are you going on the carribean princess? We are going March 1st. Hope you have a great cruise and again I apologise for letting myself get drawn into such a nasty exchange with an angry person

Thanks for the input. I probably will check out the website and I would love to hear from you when you get back about your trip. We have cruised carnival and RCL and are considering caribbean princess for next year, not going this year because we are expecting a baby in 4 weeks. Hard to stay in the cold! I am just trying to get as much input as possible before booking. Any insight would be great.

This type of name calling will get you removed from the site.

Just returned on Feb 1 from CB.
Piazza is very nice. Has rough slate tiles (to imulate coblestone), Marble-top tables for two. Surrounded by: a bar, a pannini, tapas, sushi bar: international cafe (great capuccino) a wine bar: a piano always being played (when not there is always entertainment) four scenic elevators: two circular stair cases leading from deck 5 to 6. Very spacious and well lit.

This was our first voyage on Caribbean so we're not familiar with any other noticable changes. The walking/running track, as it previously was, no longer exists. We didn't like the location of the casino as you had to walk right through it to (coming from the dining rooms) get to the Princess Theatre. You needed a gas mask from the cigarette smoke. Some minor work was still being done during the week (painting, and setting up the casino)

Embarkation day was something else. Princess screwed up by bringing the Caribbean out of dry dock the same day it was to sail (rather than the day before) and so thousands of passangers were stranded until after 7:00PM. We didn't get on board till almost 9:00PM from out 2:00PM flight arrival.
Great ship, great amenities, great ports of call, good food, fair service, rough seas at night.

Fabrizzi...

I see you mentioned the jogging track no longer exists, yet the Princess web site still has it listed. Do you know if it's being remodeled, or just gone completely. Please tell me the gym at least has weights & treadmills still.

Thanks, Bob

Fabrizzi, wondered about the new Crown Grill, I think it is meant to replace Sabatini's. It's a specialty restaurant. did you eat there and did you like it? We are going to cruise on March 1st. Can't wait.

1. Not sure about the gym or if it even exists. The jogging track was (I believe) on deck 17 which ran around the tennis court. It is no longer there. We were told to run around Decks 7 & 8. We did not.

2. Sabatini's. We did it on the Star in 07. Basically what you get for $20 are small samplings of everything on the menu. It's good that you get to taste everything, it's bad that you don't get enough of one thing. My opinion is skewed because I am Italian and everything on the menu is Italian. I have a different perspective on food I grew up eating and now cooking. All I can say is "try it, you might like it".

We did the Steakhouse on Caribbean Princess only because the dining room menu's this time seemed to be very limited to the grilled meat served. It was worth the extra $ (for one mealy anyway)

Fabrizzi...As long as you have the answers I might as well keep asking

Looking at interior pics of the ship, it doesn't seem to have a lot of natural light & ocean views from public areas, not talking about cabins. More like places such as eating areas, clubs..am I wrong about that? Hope so, my wife doesn't like it dark and a closed in feeling.

Thanks again.

Does anyone know when the Crown Grill will be finished on the caribbean princess and will they still have the Sterling Steakhouse or will the Crown Grill replace that?

I know crown grill will replace sterling steakhouse which had gotten a bad reputation. I don't know when it will be completed.

Can you tell me if there still a basketball court on CB? It used to be shared with the paddle tennis court. I have a feeling they took it away and created the Sanctuary? Do you remember seeing it? Thanks

Just back from a cruise last week on the Caribbean Princess. They moved the basketball court to where the miniature golf used to be. You are right they put the sanctuary where the basketball was.
