Suva Fiji ??

We're doing a trans-pacific next month with one of the ports being Suva, Fiji~~None of the tours look especially interesting, and I've heard Suva is not a place you'd want to wander around independantly~~Can anyone who's been there give us a little input on this island?~~We have booked all our other excursions but this one has us a little stymied~~Thanx for the help
