Default Golden Princess Alaska 8-7-10

I have booked my first cruise and it will be on the Golden Princess, RT out of Seattle to Alaska leaving on August 7th. We booked directly with Princess and have a guaranteed balcony. I'm curious what our chances are of being upgraded and if Princess gives a priority to the customers that book directly with them? I would like my first cruise experience to be a great one. I'm sure I will be posting additional questions as they come up. Thanks in advance!

Welcome to CruiseMates!

No one really knows how the upgrade fairy works . You'll find all kinds of opinions, but no one really knows !

A balcony cabin on a cruise to Alaska will be wonderful. The ship will be full, so I wouldn't count on an upgrade.

Feel free to ask as many questions as you want! People on CM's love to help !

We were upgraded only once - on our very first cruise on the Grand in 2002 - from a Cat. BC to a mini-suite. That was quite a while ago, and the upgrades don't seem so easy to come by these days. I try not to count too much on getting an upgrade and just book the best cabin I can afford.

I booked my Star Princess to Alaska that way, no upgrade. Just keep checking in the Princess personalizer and as soon as you are assigned a cabin it will show up there. Best of luck with that upgrade.

Default Category BF?

I just checked the cruise personalizer and although we don't have a stateroom assignment, it is listed as CAT BF. I did a google search on this and found a forum that was quite unfavorable towards this balcony because it's just a balcony that overlooks a walkway rather than the water. Do you have any recommendations?

Not sure I understand overlooking a walkway?? Some of the higher balconies do look down on the lower ones, but its still a good view of the water...

Looking at the deck plan, there are four BF and four BE cabins forward on Emerald Deck. They appear to look out on the Promendade that goes up a few steps from Promendade Deck to continue around the ship.

Donna, here's a picture: Deck 7 Promenade Deck 10 pictures from cruises photos on webshots Very strange... !

Because there are only 4 BF's, you probably have a good chance of an upgrade.

However, if it were me, I'd check prices again and see how much more an assigned balcony cabin costs. These cabins are not something with which I'd be happy .
