I'm wondering if anyone has run into this situation before. I've been on close to 20 cruises and have never had this happen.
I'm sailing on the Sea Princess in May and even though the cruise documents were ready online to print, there was no cabin assighnment, so my luggage tags printed with a bar code where the cabin number should be. I believe the ship is sold out - so why wouldnt they just assign the cabins?
Has this ever happened to anyone?
When I booked the cruise, the only option was a Guarantee - they wouldnt allow me to choose my cabin, so I'm very curious to know where I'll be living that week.
It is not unusual to not be assigned a cabin until very close to sailing or even at the pier. The upside is that the longer you go without a cabin assignment you have a better chance of being upgraded. It's a "better" chance but not a guarantee.
Take care and enjoy your cruise.

This happened to us on our Hawaiian cruise. Even a week before we sailed our Carnival PVP couldn't tell us where our cabin would be, which she said was unusual. Well, when we got onboard we had been upgraded to an extended balcony, which was great on this cruise. So, don't worry. Just relax and know that your cruise will be wonderful!
I'm relieved this isnt unusual. An upgrade would be great - I never thought of being upgraded because usually I pick my own cabin, so it will be fun to see what happens....keeping my fingers crossed!!!!
Hi, "sistagoldenhair". Is that the run from Barbados to Ft. Lauderdale? We'll be boarding in Ft. Lauderdale for the repo cruise thru the canal to San Francisco. One of your fellow cruisers is doing the Barbados to S.F. 21 days - WOW . Hope you have fun and get an upgrade!
Sea Princess 05/10 - Panama Canal
Celebrity Infinity 05/09 - Ultimate Alaska
Grand Princess 08/07 - British Isles & Ireland
Celebrity Horizon 6/05 - Bermuda
Golden Princess 8/04 - So. Caribbean
Celebrity Millennium - Mediterranean 6/01 - the benchmark of our cruises
Celebrity Zenith - So. Caribbean - 4/97
As others have said it is not a bit unusual for a TBA cabin not to be assigned until close to the cruise date. My experience has been that TBA cabins are usually assigned about two weeks before your cruise, but it could be even later. The fact that the ship is sold out could be a good sign for you. Princess is one of the best of all the cruise lines when it comes to giving out free upgrades. Don't get you hopes up, but upgrades do happen (sometimes) on Princess.
Good luck with the upgrade fairy and have a great cruise.
