Anybody have any problems with Travelers Checks on the ship or in ports??? We've heard that getting money from cash machines can be a problem....
I have never had a problems with any cash machines in my travels. Availability did stink in, of all places, Japan. I am not sure if that changed at all since I was there last. The otherwise technologically savvy Japanese did not like using them I was told; and banks pretty much restricted use to their own customers.
The main drawback is you are going to get the coin of the realm from a foreign machine. This is not a problem if you are staying for a length of time or you are dealing with a very exchangeable currency like the Euro, Pound Sterling or the American or Canadian Dollars.
Be aware of the approximate exchange rate. Sometimes it is easy like in Barbados where their dollar is 50 cents US. Others it can flucuate minute by minute. If you don't know the rate you may deplete your account in one swoop  and not have time to exchange it before you sail or only draw enough to buy a soda, not the native craft you had your eye on.
Keep your reciepts!
Be aware of service charges and exchange charges imposed by your bank and the bank who owns the ATM
Use only bank owned ATMs.
