Exclamation Panic Time - Shipping Rum ???

I wanted to buy up to a case of rum on my cruise. I love rums and our cruise presents a great opportunity to purchase rums that are not available to me in NJ.

I was planning on sending them home UPS but they can't. "You can not ship alcohol. The only way to ship alcohol is with a special license."

Is there anyway I can bring a case back on the airplane? Special checked luggage? Any ideas? I really disappointed about this. I'm leaving tomorrow and I have no plan!

I remember coming back from Bermuda in the 80's before you could get Goslings Black Seal here in the US. We each had a carrier filled with rum and brought it on the plane as a carry on. My friends from there used to bring cases over!

G.D. Terrorists!!!!!!!!! They ruined everything!

pack it in your checked baggage, wrap it up really, really well and hope it doesn't get broken during handling of your baggage.

I'm thinking more along the line that the ship will "hold" it for you until debark. Then Customs will ask about the "more than 1 or 2 litre" rule.

Could this be the bigger problem?

as far as i know you cannot bring that volume of liquid on the airplane as a carry-on, it has to go in as checked baggage

Cool Importing Rum

Just to let everybody know how I made out. I bought 9 bottles of rum on the cruise. We place 2 in our heaviest walled suit case. I took 4 bottles and my girlfriend took 3 in the boxes from Princess and we walked right through customs. On the plane we wrapped them in bubble wrap and put them in the carrying boxes from Princess. Wrapped them in towels& clothes and put them in to another heavy suit case we bought on sale at Wal-Mart.

While it may seem excessive for a few bottles of rum I got rums I could not purchase in the US. Including a bottle from Cuba and several bottles from the Caymans. Well worth it!

Thanks for the input!
