We are cruising to Alaska on the Golden Princess in July.
Second time to cruise (1st was RC out of Galveston) first time on Princess.
This forum has been very helpful. Thanks to all who have responded.
Do we need to get out early on the Glacier Bay day to get a good place to stand?
Does anyone have a favorite place/deck outside for viewing?
Any other tips for- sail-away, first day, orienting to the ship etc would be appreciated.
Thanks again for your help.
Hi Mimi, I can't speak specifically for Glacier Bay, but our favourite viewing point for scenic ports was the front of the ship where the Prom Deck goes up a few steps then wraps around. It's relatively sheltered there against the weather & means you can see everything ahead of the ship.
Great alternatives to this are the forward wrap-round 'balconies' for the 3 decks under the bridge as these never seem to get to be too busy. My thinking is, if the shipbuilders think that is the best way for the Bridge to face to face, then who am I to argue ;o)
Have an amazing time,
Alan & Katrina

When I was on Star Princess in Alaska, great views from the front upper decks, although others will also find that good spot...Most likely you'll get good views on any of the upper decks and even on your balcony, if you have one, its just nice to see all the views at the same time.

If you don't care about which way you're looking , the aft decks (Caribe, Dolphin, Emerald) are really nice. Most people go forward and you might find a "mob" there, but the aft decks aren't as popular. The Golden is a beautiful ship and it's easy to find your way about.
Have a wonderful cruise,

Thanks for the tip about the aft decks. We are going to check out all the locations on our first day. I'm glad to hear that it is easy to find your way around on the Golden Princess. I have read on some of the message boards that the Golden is a bit tricky to find your way around. We are studying the deck plans but I'm sure they will make more sense to us after we are aboard.
Would love to hear more tips- particularly about things we should do the first day.
Thanks again.
Very True TX,
There are certain decks that do not go from front to back, once you know the decks that work, you go around and get used to it, just look at the deck plans and you will be OK.
The deck where MUTS is located would be great for observing in Alaska.

We did the Alaska in Aug. 09 on Golden. We found that the Sun Deck was the best spot to view from. But we was adrift for a while, so we had plenty of time to check out different spots.
Enjoy your cruise.

Did Glacier Bay twice is May 10. We found that it didn't matter as to where you sat or stood . We just grabbed a couple of deck chairs on the promenade deck with blankets and just sat . It doesn't matter which side , both sides will see all the sights. At the end of Glacier bay the ship just sits and rotates .
