We sail Princess almost exclusively & if the Island Princess were not going to the canal I would love to book it over the Emerald, Ruby or Crown. We've been to the canal so many times that the added port charges aren't as attractive as the Caribbean ports. The Island is a great ship except that the don't have the International Cafe yet but even without it they have a great buffet which is just a good as the other ships without the extra people to crowd you.

I like the thought of her because she is a smaller ship. I have sailed the larger newer ships on Carnival for the last 3 years. It is time to down size.

Default Check thread Princess 10 Day RT Ft. Lauderdale/Panama Canal

Check out the thread Princess 10 day RT Ft. Lauderdale/Panama Canal. It's about the Coral - but is germane to the Island as they are sister ships. I've been on the Island twice - coming up on the Coral for the 4th time.

And they are identical in almost every way - only difference is in decor - the Casino is Brit on the Coral and French on the Island.

Can't tell you about Island Princess I was on the Coral but you will love love love the Panama Canal. Don't worry about getting up at the crack of dawn to watch the ship go through the gates, this process takes all day so you will have plenty of time. It's amazing
I loved Costa Rica went on a zipline and had the time of my life. The ship circles gaton lake so there is no reason to take a tour of the lake but I heard that the train tour is very nice. I didn't get of the ship in panama because I wanted to see the ship go through the gates. But since the ship goes through many gates and it takes all day, I didn't know this, you can see this marvel and still go and tour the area.
Have a great time.

Cool

The difference between the Coral 7 island is that the Island didn't have

MUTS (Movies Under The Stars) . They are supposed to install MUTS during

the refit currently being done in Victoria BC.

The Island Princess is our favorite ship. We have sailed the Island four times and just booked another two cruises on the Island.

The size and layout of the Island is what makes it our favorite ship afloat. We don't really want to sail on a mega ships and the Island still offers us all the options of one of the bigger ships.

Have a great cruise.

Loved the ship, the Island Princess is a very nice ship, all the way around.

Itinerary is great except for Cartagena, Columbia, highly suggest a ship tour or stay on the ship at this port of call!

Don't know ur age but DW and I are upper 40's and we were some of the youngest passengers on this ship. Crowd was not very lively at all.

Personally, been on Princess twice, have not been impressed and will not sail the lines again except maybe for Alaska because of land tours.

Hi Debra (Nurse Debra),

Really looking forward to cruising on Island in December, 2010, for our first trip on her, and also our first to the Panama. Everything we read seems to be positive.

Best wishes from Down Under
Nicki

You'll enjoy the Panama. We did it last Dec on the Island Westbound . I would suggest that you skip any tours in Columbia or Panama because of the high humidity . Just have a quiet ship day.

Red face Great info

Thanks all who've posted about Princess. Long time cruisers but have never done Princess, also this will be our first Panama Canal cruise. Have heard likewise about doing a ship-sponsored tour in Columbia, we usually try to hook up with independent tour operators, but only after we've been to a port at least once to get "the lay of the land". Also, wife (Boss) and I are early 50s, will we be among the younger crowd on a 15 day cruise?

Thanks in advance, cruznuts

Hello Insider; My husband and I will also be on this cruise; only 45 days to go! I was looking for a meet and greet thread for this cruise but I don't see one. Cruise Critic has a great roll call thread; check it out to meet more folks on this cruise.
