Smile Suite Perks Questions

I waited until Princess put my cruise on their 'Cruise Deals' site and upgraded from a mini-suite to a Vista suite. This saved me $700 off the usual rate for a VS cabin!

Anyone have any tips about the 'extended room service' menu? I see where some people have had to request these menus from the room steward. Is that normal?

What's the advantage to the mini-bar setup? Does that mean I won't be charged for those items?

We don't really drink so I can't address the liquor setup - but I think the first one is complimentary.

As far as the menu's go for the extended room service: The first cruise we took in a suite the menu's were replaced everyday. After that - we had to ask. It was as though they were trying to hide them for some reason. Do take advantage of breakfast at Sabatini's. Doesn't matter what time you care to dine ~ a table is always available and of course the free laundry. I'm a few cruises away from Elite - so this perk is always one that I appreciate. Also, they put the regular breakfast card in your room but you can write in anything you want. My requests have never been turned down while in a suite.

I see you are a very seasoned cruiser - I hope I haven't insulted you with information you may already be aware of. Just trying to give back.

Kathy

Thanks for the response. I understand they make it difficult to use the 'extended' room service menu. I will try to get this sorted out quickly with the room steward.

I've been in suites on Carnival, NCL, and Celebrity. The is the first suite on Princess.

10 days until sailing!

1) 1st Mini Bar set up is FREE, replacement is at a charge.
2) Dry cleaning & laundry is complementry for regular service (2-days), next day service has an additional charge.
3) The suite "menu" is not a problem, your room stuward delivers everything you desire and will case down most request.
4) Your suite will also contain upgraded amenities, slippers, cushy robe, toiletries, Make-up mirror for the wife, ect.
5) Reservation at specialty restaurants and services such as spa and shore excursions should be requested through your butler, dining @ premium hours on formal nights is subject to availabilty, same with spa services before formal nights.
Shore excursions can sale out, so waiting until last minute stacks againt you.

The suite will also count as 2 cruises to your captain's circle membership so you will get to Platinum and/or Elite faster.

Thinking of booking a mini suite when doing the next Alaska cruise, is it worth the extra $ and what is included with that?

We did a mini suite on the Island for our Alaska cruise. LOVED the balcony as there was always something beautiful to see. Mini doesn't have the perks of the full suites but was great anyways. We loved the extra room, large bathroom with tub and shower, and glass of champagne. We got a great deal and the mini ended up costing us just a total of $200 (per couple, not person) more than a balcony room would have been.

I agree with everything topher said. Just be prepared though, once you book a mini, that is all you will ever want to book. The couch/extra tv is really nice and the larger tub/shower is so much better. There aren't any perks except for a glass of champagne when you meet your room steward and the extra space. It's well worth it and all we book now.

Here is the sitting area:

Here is the larger bathroom:

We were in E730 (mini-suite) in the Crown last year. This is considered a 'secret' room because the deck plan doesn't show the extended length balcony. It is about twice the size of a normal mini-suite balcony and gives you an unobstructed view aft. Apparently the aftmost mini's on Grand class ships all have the extended balconies. We were booked in the same room only starboard on the Grand before upgrading to a Vista Suite. The mini's on Emerald deck are covered. We enjoyed not looking up and seeing others as is the case on Caribe and Dolphin.
