i heard that you can' bring alcohol on board that they would scan your bags and keep the liquor till the end of the cruise, also heard if you buy onboard at the duty free you are taxed a corkage fee of 10 bucks for personal usage, anybody have any problems like this?
We had no problem bring some beer on Explorer, no questions asked. As for the corkage fee that only applies if you are bringing the wine to dinner, you can buy and consume in your own cabin. Although our travel agent sent a bottle of wine and we got a card at dinner stating that we had a bottle. We then just had the waiter serve it to the table one night at dinner in the dinning room and there was no fee for that. In the past when our travel agent sent a bottle of wine, it was left in the cabin when we first arrived, this seems to have changed, but I would of rather shared it with our tablemates anyway.
We were on Explorer the end of April and had a wonderful time, I bet you will too. Be sure to catch all the shows, parades and the ice show, all worth seeing, enjoy.
I did also write a review thats posted if you care to read through it:
We had absolutely no problem bringing liquor on board either the Explorer or Voyager. In hindsight, bring only enough for your first day on ship, because the prices on board are SO MUCH cheaper than what you can buy back home. We also purchased liquor at some ports and again, no difficulty bringing it on the ships. Just make your drinks in your room and there's no problem at all.
