I am going on the EOS on July 14th, and want to know how I can get an cabin upgrade. I am willing to pay,(how much will it cost) , is it cheaper than booking the higer cabin? Also can I get a free upgrade if I ask for one. DO I have to wait till I get to the peir to get an uprage. Should I arrive early?? Thanks also anyone esle on EOS 7/14??
Good luck getting an upgrade at the pier. That rarely happens unless the ship is have availability, which doesn't happen very often.
You need to change your cabin assignment to "Guarantee". You are guaranteed to get a cabin in the category you paid for, and POSSIBLY something in a higher category. You have no choice as far as location - the cruise line usually assigns you to the cabin they need to fill.
Past passengers with RCI are more likely to get a better upgrade than non-past passengers.
IF you are willing to pay for an upgrade, then have your agent call RCI and see what cabins are available and what the cost difference would be for each cabin. You can either decline or accept the upgrade, pay the difference and be assigned a certain cabin. Sometimes there is a charge to go with a Guarantee if the cabin category is higher than what you have already paid for.
Upgrades are always questionable, best way to possible get one is to book a guarantee cabin assignment, here is an article that explains it, good luck.
Had a great time on Explorer this spring.
Check RCI's website and find out if there are any cabins in the higher category left-- do the math-- subtract what you paid for from what they are selling for right now. Then call your TA-- if the cabin is not available have them waitlist you-- then when it comes up, RCI will fax your TA who has a hold on it til close of business that day. YOu can accept or deny the upgrade. YOu might also tell your TA what to do if the deal is good( figure out what you consider good) and you might be hard to r each.
I did this 4 times, and only 1 time did I consider the upgrade a steal-- compared the price of the cabin i f I originally booked it in the first place.
DO you have a ROS or GTY? then the upgrade will be automatic with no input from you (and no cost) If you are a repeat cruiser on RCI, you will probably get the best cabin they can upgrade you to within the limits of availability and category you booked.
Its a gamble that you should only take if you are willing to settle for whatever you end up in. If room category, location etc. will make or break your cruise, pick a specific cabin and pay the price. If you book a guarantee: 1) you may end up in the category you booked or, 2) you may get an upgrade to a higher categoried stateroom that you do not feel is a "better" , or, 3) you might actually get booked into a higher category in a desirable location. I don't think there is much you can do to improve your chances.
