Hello,
A group of us are sailing on Adventure of the Seas in Feb 2002. We're planning on flying down to San Juan a day or two early and are looking for recommendations on hotels in San Juan. Has anyone stayed down there and have any suggestions?
Thanks
Hi Michelle,
When we did a pre-cruise we stayed at the Wyndham Old San Juan, its right across the street from one of the piers, great location. Not sure exactly where you'd want to stay, but it was a nice plus being able to walk around Old San Juan the day before cruising and then just going over to the pier on the day of the cruise.
There a lots of other hotels, but this one was certainly the best located. They had a pool on the roof, small, but nice, a decent restaurant, not the best service there, and also a nice casino, at least my husband liked it :-)
Michelle, we have stayed at the Hyatt Cerromar Beach Hotel. It is quite a distance (about one-half hour) from old San Juan, but the atmosphere and the grounds are wonderful. They have a swim up bar, a river rapids pool, casino on site, and a golf course next door. When we stayed there, it was part of RCI's pre-cruise offerings, so they transported us there from the airport, and picked us up and brought us to the pier on the sailing day. We are staying at the Wyndham that Donna mentioned when we cruise in April, but that is because it is only a one day pre-cruise package. If you are staying two or three days, I think the Hyatt Cerromar Beach can't be beat!!
For a one night pre-cruise the Wyndham Old San Juan is central and worth the cost. Also within Old San Juan are the El Convento or the Hotel Milano both converted historic properties. For 2 or more days, you may wish to be on the beach. The Wyndham El San Juan (there are 3 Wyndham hotels in PR) is one of the best rated on the Isle Verde. Majoy place to be and be seen. Great night life too just 5 minutes from the airport and 10 minutes from the pier by taxi.
Bon Voyage
We like the Marriott in Condado. Great hotel & casino with lobby bar for people watching & cigar smoking allowed. Pool area is teriffic and is right on the beach. We like it there due to some outstanding restaurants within walking distance - Ramiro's, JoseJose, and Ajili Mojili. Old San Juan and the pier is only a few minutes away by taxi. As you can tell by the responses you've gotten, it really depends on what you want to do. We like a leisurely day at the pool/beach, some shopping in Old San Juan, but definitely an outstanding dinner.
Good luck deciding.....

We stayed at the El Conquistador at the east end of the island... about 1-1/2 hour to 2 hour drive from San Juan. Luxurious Resort with Golf, horseback riding, scuba, private island, yacht club. Incredible pool and grounds. It is isolated the restaurants are over priced, but we found a local place in Fajardo that we liked about 5 minutes from the resort and ate there. There is not much in the way of restaurants other than the resort. The town is about 5 minutes away and has most of the necessities. We had a really nice time, but traffic is heavy on Puerto Rico and it will take you longer to get back to town than the distance would have you believe. Still very glad we did it.
