Default Information Please

I am taking the Majesty of the Sea cruise in Feb, 2002. Can anyone tell me what to expect. The price was great and there was no mention of any addional charges (port ones or anything else) other than liquour... Any information would be welcome, I'm a first-timer.

Thanks.

David

Hi David

We just got back from the Sovereign of the Seas last night. On the cruise ship, you will be charged for alcoholic beverages, sodas, on board activities like Bingo, casino cash advances, etc. The ships are "cashless", which means that your ship board purchases are applied to a "charge account". At the end of your cruise, these charges are either applied to your credit card, or settled in cash. Hope this helps ! Have a great time ! You will be hooked !

Thanks for the information. So does that mean that when I pay 249.00/per person for my cruise..all port charges are included ? I understand/expected to have to pay for the activities you mentioned. I was wondering about any 'hidden' costs.

Thanks.

David.

Hi David,
Not really sure, but it still sounds like you may have to pay those port charges, your travel agent should be able to tell you that. Here is a link to a lot of great tips for a first cruise, hope this also helps:

Most prices now days include portcharges but not always. There is also Goverment fees and taxes that not usually included. On the ships you will pay for all alcoholic drinks ,on Explorer soda was free at meals in the restuarant but your were charged all other places and times .You pay in the casino ,Bingo and in the gift shops .They are always taking pictures of you that is extra as well if you want to buy them . when you are in port The Shore excursions can get expensive if you buy from the ship .You can do most things on your own for cheaper if you do a little research before you leave ( I go to the library or to a book store where I can sit and read for a hour and takes notes guides books can get expensive and are soon outdated) Also ask questions on this board people will help .YOu can view the excursions on the RCI site and know what they offer and their price before you go . Somethings it is just easyier to book with the ship .then you have tipping most of the people taking care of you that is how they make their money from your tips . the shop recommends$3.50 a day per person for your cabin person also for your waiter .$2.00 a day for your busboy then the materde(sorry don't know how to spell that) for the explorer for the week was $69.00 per person suggested tipping of course if you get excellent service you can up that or down it if service was not great it's up to you . Hopes this helps I just got back yesterday from my 4th cruise and it is the best way to travel .JUst remember to take loose fitting clothes you eat all the time on board !!!!! E-mail if I can help more . Doreen
