Default Sovereign of the Seas

Hi,
Am taking my husband on his first cruise, my second, on SOS for 4 nights on 3/10/02. He has cancer and is half way through his chemo series, which makes him very tired. We won't be participating in many of the on-broad activities, but thought a cruise would be ideal for us 40 something-ish folk: warm weather, unpacking just once, no driving, no worrying about how to get where. Anything anyone could tell me about the SOS, Coco Cay, Nassau, etc.? I sure would appreciate words of wisdom form those more experienced than I.
Thanks,
AR

Hi AR

My husband and I were on the SOS back in November during Hurricane Michelle, therefore we did not get to stop at CocoCay. Our Nassau stop was delayed by a day to the Hurricane, but we have been there a couple of times before. Nassau is Nassau. The beaches were being cleaned and the town was really just opening up. We took a land taxi to Atlantis Casino and won a lot of money!
This was our 3rd cruise. 1st on RCI. The cabins were extremely small, service was great. THe ship does show some wear (i.e. stains in carpet, etc,,,,,and there is this weird odor in the hallways at times), but overall it was a great 4 day getaway for the money. I was 7 weeks post op from major abdominal surgery and was worried about getting overtired, but I did o.k. The elevators are somewhat slow, so I sometimes overdid the stairs! Hope this helps! Have a great time !!!!!

1. Look at all the possible tours
2. Decide which you are interested in and can handle
3. Tell the tour director about your husband's conditions and they'll make arrangements acordingly.
4.Enjoy your cruise to the max and DO take a LOT of pictures to remember it .

i went on this ship twice and had a great time. CocoCay is very-very Hot...If it is 90 on the ship it is 110 on the island. If you like the water then try it the water is beautiful. But there is a good little walk to the beach from the boat...The food at the BBQ was ok and just OK. I have a much better. So you may want to eat on the ship. Great show and entertainment.

Happy sailing,
Shanden

Been to the Island and CocoCay twice. Last time on SOS. We opted for walking around town the second time. Took in a lite lunch and a few local drinks. Enjoyed walking around for a short time and then back to the ship. Unless you want to take a taxi to the casino's.
While at CocoCay - as you get off the boat go to the left(everyone goes to the right where the main beach is). Walk about 100 yards. There you will find Paradise. A tiki type bar with 3 hammocks all under palm trees. Lots of shade. You'll find short type beach chairs. Sit in the shallow water or just lay chest up in the water and play with the fishes. This was the most relaxing part of our vacation. When you get hungry one of you can walk back to the main food depot. Bring back lunch and fruit and enjoy it under the palm trees.
If you opt for the main beach there is very little shade but the snolking is good they have a plane off shore which you can observe. We enjoyed the quite of the 1st choice. Enjoy have fun and bring plenty of sun screen.
