Hi..wife and I are first timers..going on the Monarch 3/4-3-9. Can anyone tell us how many formal nights (tuxes and gowns) we can expect? Also wondering if polos and khakis are acceptable dress for dinner? Thanks!
We cruised on the Explorer last month,( 1st timers also) but the format is probably the same. 2 formal nights for 7 day cruises. Some wore tuxes and long gowns, but mostly the men wore regular suits amd women wore dressy (coctail-type) dresses or pantsuits. For the first formal night(Sun.), I wore a sparkly top that I wear for Xmas parties and dressy, black crepe slacks. I saw a lot of women in sparkly tops and black skirts or pants, so I felt in style. The 2nd night (Wed), I wore my latest mother-of-the-groom dress.(short) and still felt comfortable. My hubby wears a tux for his kids weddings only. We changed right after dinner to less formal clothes. Girlfriends who have cruised before were my pre-cruise wardrobe consultants and they steered me right.
One night was "smart casual" night, sort of an ambiguous "dressy casual", but was overshadowed by country&western night at the disco. They said we could wear our C&W togs if we wanted to.(We don't own any) Nice polos and khakis are probably all right, but no shorts. I wore "church clothes" the other nights and fit right in. Don't obsess over it. Relax and have fun! As all our friends and our TA said' "You will love it!"
