property free and just look around the grounds or is it true that they charge you $25 per person just to get on the grounds? We are only going to be there for a couple of hours so we are not planning on using the beach or pool, we just want to see what they have to offer. The ship offers a package for I think $25 per person, but I would just like to take a cab there and just look around for a couple of hours.
We went last summer and checked out the resort and it didnt cost anything then.(its quite a place)But for this year I don't know, seems like I heard they were going to "do something"but i can't say. Maybe a recent visitor can advise?
We were there in Feb. and didn't pay anything to get onto the grounds. We went to the casino and a bar there. We walk around the entire place and had no problems. We did see other people getting stopped and security asking for there room keys but that was buy the pool. I think that you should be fine as long as you don't draw attention to yourself.
We did the ship tour of the harbor and Atlantis, and for the $25 that it cost, it was well worth it. Once there, you should really see the aquarium and the dig, and I don't think you can just walk through there without having a tour. The price also included the water taxi back to the pier. We too were there for only a few hours, but its a place you really have to see to believe.
We went to visit Atlantis last december and we payed money to tour the place. Even with paid "admission" you are not allowed to use the pool at all.Our kids had fun to see all the fish and the "dig" was nice too. The tour guide however raced us through the place and it truly was not very pleasant. But I think it was just this certain tour guides fault. We ended up paying for a cab back to the tender since teh walk to the hotel was long and fast. There are stores inside the Hotel but nothing to write home about. Food was real expensive so we skipped it and ate back at the ship.Hope this was of some help!
We were just there last week, and have been there many times last year. The $25.00 is a big ripoff, it entitles you to see the "Digs". All this is basically, is the other side of the aquarium in the lobby, which is free for everyone to see. There are a few other areas, but certainly not worth the $25. And as stated, you do not get access to the pool or beach area. they are just for hotel guests. Take a taxi ($4.00/pp each way) or water taxi,
($3.00/pp each way), and do your own sightseeing.
There is no charge at all to visit Atlantis... the shopping areas, the Casino (for sure) and the restaurant area. You can get over there on a water taxi right from the piers or in a land taxi for very reasonable rates. The only charge there is if you want to use the beach facilities, or visit the remarkable aquarium. This is, after all, a hotel with paying guests. It would be impossible for them to permit 6 or 7 cruise ships full (10,000 or so people) to grab up their beach facilities every Saturday and Sunday... at the expense of their paying guests. It is well worth the trip over there... and the casino is the largest in the Caribbean. You can be sure they make no charge for you to visit it!
We just returned from Sovereign of the Seas on Mar 17 and did go to Atlantis. We had the taxi driver take us to the public access beach right next to Atlantis, walked down a short path to the beach and enjoyed the beachwhich is a five minutes walk from Atlantis. Following that we walked over to the Atlantis by way of the beach and toured the property, the Dig, the aquarium, the casino and didn't pay a thing. Have a great trip.
The Atlantis is something not to be missed!!!
