we're heading down to ft. lauderdale tomorrow for our eastern caribbean cruise on royal caribbean's enchantment of the seas, and we're excited, but we just started hearing some negative things about the nassau, bahamas, stingray city excursion (too cramped, not enough rays, somewhat "artificial"). can anyone provide insight/advice? we're not sure if we should cancel the trip and try to book something else. if you could give specific reasons/examples, that would be very helpful!
We were on the island (Salt Cay) where Nassau's Stingray City is located. You could walk right up & look down into the sectioned off area where you swim w/the rays. It's rather pitiful compared to the REAL Stingray City that is quite famous & located off of Grand Cayman. The one off Nassau just simply can't compare & seems less natural since it is sectioned off. Personally, I would not waste the money on the one by Nassau. You might enjoy it somewhat since you have never done it at all, but it simply isn't the same type of experience at all in my opinion. I have done Stingray City off of Gr. Cayman twice: once in the shallows - water is about 4 ft. deep, and once a little deeper, where we had to swim more, but in the same area. If you think you will go on more cruises, save yourself for that one. It's a very popular and fun excursion.
