Default Cruising out of Puerto Rico

Does anyone know of some good Hotels in Puerto Rico close to the cruise Docks.
We will be Traveling on the Adventure Aug 10th 2003 and would like to come in a day ahead. Would like any input on pros and cons on arriving a day earlier. We are traveling from California.

In San Juan, we always stay at the Wyndham, in Old San Juan... just across the street from most of the docks. It's a lovely property, walking distance to the sights and restaurants in Old San Juan and it has quite an active casino.

The Old San Juan Wyndam is right across from the docks. It is a beautiful hotel and the rooms are very nice. It is right on the water in Old San Juan. I stayed there in December and I give it an A+. Most of the cruise ships dock, and sail, from that side of the waterway. If you are sailing on the Adventure of the Seas, it sails from the other side of the waterway, and the closest hotel to that one is the Condado Plaza, also a very nice hotel, and also on the water.

P.S. They are both listed in the back of the 2003-2004, RCCL Caribbean cruise book, in the extend your vacation section.

We too stayed at the Wyndam (in Old San Juan) three years ago and enjoyed it - I don't know how far it is to where AOS actually docks (see another post as to that dock which is apparently not the dock across from the Wyndam). I would definitely plan to come in at least a day before as you'd be flying across 4 time zones (I believe San Juan is Atlantic time zone) and you'll have at least one change of plane. There's a fair amount of things to do in Old San Juan so you could enjoy a day or two before the cruise anyway. The forts are magnificent to walk around. There is also a hotel in a restored convent, Il Convento, or something like that which I believe is quite nice (but more expensive but truly in the heart of Old San Juan - right across from the Cathedral) - we had drinks in the courtyard and it was very pretty.

Hi Elaine,
Have to also agree with Ernie, we did a pre-cruise at the Wyndham in Old San Juan, get location if you want to be by the pier and close to shopping, restaurants, and some old historical sights.

Coming in from Ca, I'd highly recommend going a day early, thats a long travel day for you and you can start your cruise all rested up and no worries about late arriving flights.

My best experience...The Hotel Intercontinental... A little distance from port ...but nothing a $15.00 cab ride wouldn't fix.
