Default buying rum

Can one carry rum or other alcoholic beverages on board as gifts for friends and family at home??? Are you charged extra duty for buying alcohol at the various ports on a caribbean cruise? I am particularly interested in purchasing rum in Puerto Rico, how does one go about doing that?

The rule for RCCL is any alcohol that is purchased at a port will be taken from you and stored until the last night when it will be delivered to your room. Check with customs on how much alcohol you can reenter the country with. There are different allowances for different ports. Because Puerto Rico is a U.S. territory you may be able to bring back more bottles. I am not completely sure of the rules.

When you go to the shopping get-to-gethers on the ship (& be sure to go-you can get freebies!) they will tell you according to the ports you are going to. We went to SanJuan, St.Maartin,St.Thomas,Nassau. We could bring liters/pp but if you bought 1 that was made in the Virgin Island - you got an extra. So for the 2 of us we were allowed 10 liters. They keep it for you until the last nite. Also - some of the places in port deliver it to your ship for you - it is great - you don't have to lug it around w/you & they are recommended by RCCI. For friends - we bought small little bottles. (we didn't waste the big bottles on friends for goodness sake!)

We went to San Juan last year, It was cheaper to by rum at the pier than it was at the Bacardi factory.

Do you know how much you can expect to pay for premium rum like Captain Morgan Reserve or better? Is most alcohol 750 or liter or are 1.75 liters available? Thanks.

I agree. The place in the port in San Juan has great pricing. The locals there reccomend donq. Everyone I serve it to loves it and it is very reasonably priced.
