Help if you can! We have a hold on the Nov. 30th sailing of the Grandeur out of New Orleans to the Western Caribbean, but we must make the decision between her and the new Celebrity Constellation (out of San Juan) by tomorrow, Nov. 4, at 5 p.m.
I know that the Grandeur is an older ship and recently read a review by someone saying that she is showing her age, etc. (worn carpeting and upholstery, terrible mattresses on the beds), is that true? We have a hold on cabin 7044, deck 7 , superior ocean view with balcony. Anyone been in any of those cabins, I do understand that it is large in sq. footage (190, according to TA) and has a decent sized balcony, but this would be our first balcony ever and our first sail with Royal Caribbean (we have sailed previously on Celebrity and many times with Princess). Any and all comments on the ship itself and especially that class of cabin would be greatly appreciated, whether positive or negative, I need the real "skinny".
Thanks in advance! luvseadays
p.s. Time is of the essence, I know this is short notice, but I will be most grateful for replies if anyone has the time. I will check the board again later, Thanks again!
Luv, I had that category on Rhapsody (sister ship) and it's very comfortable. I also love the Solarium indoor pool on the Vision class -- it's just decadent.
Obviously, food is not going to be as good on RCCI; however, between having a balcony on Grandeur and none on Celebrity, I think I would stick with the balcony. And, as your name implies, there is nothing better than a balcony for enjoying sea days in private.
Sorry if I posted that wrong, but we do have a balcony cabin reserved on the Celebrity ship also, just not as large as this one on the Grandeur. We have never sailed RCCL, what are they like in comparison to Princess or Celebrity?
p.s. You're right, my name is exactly what it implies!
I find that RCL & Celebrity is much better than Princess in service, food, activities, rooms, ship design, etc. Clearly I prefer RCL & Celebrity over Princess. RCL will have the best entertainment and on board activities and will be close to Celebrity in service. Celebrity will have the best food.
Celebrity cruises I would say are more refined and easy good. Very easy to relax on...however you can do this on RCL also. RCL will excel in entertainment. RCL I find is targetted toward a bit younger crowd than Celebrity.
Have you ever sailed on the Grandeur? The cabin that we have on hold is a deluxe oceanview with balcony, 190 sq. ft. with a 38 sq. ft. balcony, I believe it is mid ship on c or d deck. We are still wondering if the Grandeur is showing her age, both my husband and I have bad backs and are concerned about the quality of the mattresses. I think I will post and ask if anyone has been on her recently. Thanks again!
We sailed the Grandeur last week and I disagree that she's in bad shape. We thought she was beautiful. Easy embarkation in New Orleans for us, we live in Louisiana.
The Constellation would include a flight to and from San Juan, that figures in the price.
However, if I had to choose, I'd choose Constellation, HANDS DOWN! Newer, larger ship, bigger cabins, a real fine alternative restaurant!!
