I have been converted from a Carnival Cruise fan to a Royal Caribbean Raidiance of the Seas fan. While i will not completely give up on Carnival, i will say that if the Raidaince and the Carnival Spirit were going to the same destination at the same price, I would choose Raidiance in a heart beat. Didn't get to meet any of the Cruise Mates Party, thats the only down side to the cruise. Shore excursion were not that good, except San Francisco. The staff was the best ever, made friends for life. Hello Vinny in the Solruim bar. Hello to the photography staff, and a special hello to Shelia working the information desk. Guys don't go as a single, you will be infatuated many times. Crowd was on the older side, but met so many good people. The only thing i was a little disappointed in was the staterooms were on the small side, Carnival was much larger. Wimdjammer was almost as elegant as the formal dining room. Entertainment in the Atrium was a good as it gets. Didn't go to many of the shows. Casino was on the small side, but smoke free. Debarkation was a complete disaster, and i will never go back to the Vancouver airport. In closing, I have never been on a Carnival cruise that didn't exceed 90 out of 100. But with not that good shore excursions, debarkation the worst ever, and not very good weather, I would rate this cruise a 97 out of a 100. Raidiance truley lived up to it's billing. Thanks Karen my travel agent for pulling me kicking and screaming into the Royal Caribbean family.
Welcome to the club and I agree about disembarking. Had there not been a delay on our 1057 flight (scheduled by "RCI") we would not have made it and we did miss next connection. Luggage arrived half hour after we finally got back to San Diego and how about the $7 additional airport fee in Vancouver?? Felt like I was robbed with a weapon.
The cruise itself was fine and the Radiance held her own. Weather in San Fran was a good as it ever gets (forehead may still peel).
If anyone is angry about the Vancouver Airport Departure fee, they should ask their TA why he or she didn't advise them about it. It is not a new fee and, actually, our US airports charge similar fees. Here, however, they are included in the price of your airline ticket so you may not realize you are being charged. Glad to see some more fans of RCI, especially the Radiance Class ships. We have enjoyed the Radiance (once) and Brilliance (twice and a third booked) and but for a work schedule which won't allow it, we would be on the Serenade Transatlantic in August.
Taking a cruise to Alaska on the Raidiance is as close to feeling like you are in haven as you can get. So much glass. Do me a favor and tell Vinny in the Solorium that Doug says hello. The best bartender in the world.
