Default Stay in Houston or Galveston night before cruise?

We're flying into Houston the day before our Aug. 17th cruise. Where do you think is a better place to stay the night, Houston or Galveston? If Galveston, can anyone recommend a hotel? Thanks so much!

I have been to Galveston before and I am going on the September 28th Rhapsody from Galveston. I stayed at the Commodore on the Beach Hotel and it was nice if you don't mind an older hotel, but it is 100 ft from the Gulf and all rooms have a Gulf view and its real close to the port.......www.commodoreonthebeach.com
If you want to see a complete list of hotels in Galveston just to to www.galveston.org and check them out. I would personally recommend staying in Galveston so that you will be closer to the port.

We stay at the Commodore also. The rooms are fine, and the place is very close to some great restaurants (Gaido's, etc....). Also, they will let you leave your car in their lot during your cruise. They will shuttle you to the pier and pick you up when you return. That alone is worth it! Our rate is $98 for the night, and the savings of parking at the pier is about $80.

We have stayed in Galveston, Houston and in between.
I recommend staying in Galveston, you wake up with the sun over
the water, close to your port, and a few of the Hotels will allow you to
park & shuttle to the ship. This will save you the $60 parking fee at the peir,
making your stay at a nice hotel worth about $40. We are staying at the Hilton Resort Beachfront on the seawall in October. ($99 per night). Our T/A fixed us up.

The Harbor House in Galveston is very nice. You can see the cruise ships from your window. It is right on the Pier and walking distance to many restaurants. Can leave your car there for $20.00. Real nice for about $89.00 or so.
