Default Western ports: Cozumel, Belize and Grand Cayman

Can anyone tell me if you are able to get good deals on shore excursions after you leave the ship (as was the case in Alaska)? Some of the prices on RCCL seem high.

What shore excursions do you recommend?

Hi in cozumel you want to go diving/snorkeling and if you are there at night you will have to go to prima's it is a roof top restaurant that is great but it is only open at night, in grand caymen you need to do the swim with the sting rays thing it is awesome i would it agian, and in belieze when we asked the waiter what to do they said stay on the ship there is a great casino in town not far from where the tender lets you off we had a cab driver take us around all day and there is not really much to see, I cann't remeber what the name of the hotel the casino is in but just ask the cab driver and tell him it is in the "nicest hotel" which they have free drinks that makes it nice otherwise you might want to book through the ship because the beach and everything else is very far and you would have to take the bus. Have a great trip email me back with any more questions, what ship are you going on?

Prima's was pretty good. As far as shore excursions, you can definetly do better than the cruise line prices. I booked my own diving trip in cozumel which was alot less then that I could have gotten from the cruise line.

Two years ago in Cozumel, we took a short cab ride to the Club del Sol beach club. You can snorkel the Dzal Ha Reef for free. It was the best snorkeling I have ever done. We did pruchase a few things as a courtesy.
In Grand Cayman, we went to Sting Ray City with Best Value Charters. It is a small operation with friendly, personal service. We hooked up with them when we got off the tender.
Also in Grand Cayman, we snorkeled off the Eden Rock Dive Shop. Again it was free and the snorkeling was very good.

I think the snorkling in Grand Cayman is tops but in my opinion the Cemetery is superior to Eden Rocks. Easy cab ride there. Sting Ray city sandbar is a must do. I have gone with Cpt Marvin the most and I still prefer them. I only go on the 1/2 day tours myself. I wouldn't go with any independent if you have a 2 pm or earlier departure, I have seen plenty of people miss the ship. Cayman does NOT go to Daylight Savings and some ships do, so you could be an hour behind on any independent tours. In Belize- I greatly enjoyed Cave tubing- booked with Reggie. Cozumel- Chankaab Park is worthwhile, clean, no harassing venders, snorkle rental $5, entrance fee $10pp plus $10 cab each way. But snorkling inferior to Cayman.

In Cozumel we went to a beach called Nachi Cocom. I don't think the snorkeling was very good ( I didn't snorkle here, but did up the coast a bit at Playa Sol and it wasn't good there), but it was a very relaxing "beach day". They also have a full service restaurant with beach service if you choose. They have a fresh water pool with a swim up bar and jacuzzi. They also have watersports for additional cost. The best part was it was free! E mail me for pics and any questions if you are interested.

We really enjoyed the semi-submersible in Cozumel taking us to the Palancar reef (awesome). also shopping for turqoise jewelrywas excellent & my husb. enjoyed some good cigars & Mex. beer at a place on the main street overlooking the water--we got a coupon from the ship. Our tablemates took the ferry to the mainland on their own & went to one of the nature parks & had a great day--they were from Mexicao City so felt they could be a bit adventurous on their own. In Gr Cayman we went to a resort but I thought the ships excursions were the best--very crowded around where you get off the ship...home of the $25 tee shirt!
