Default Royal Carib Credit Card

We decided to sign up for the card & use it for our deposit, cruise payment etc. It should arrive next week. Has anyone had any experience with the card or enjoyed any of its perks yet???? Next cruise is Celeb then back to RCCL but the card might keep us more aligned to RCCL in the future since those points could add up quickly!

I just tried to redeem 5000 points for a $50 onboard credit. Got a call from MBNA, "sorry, the certificates aren't ready yet, give me your booking number & we'll work directly with RCI". That was a week ago & have yet to hear anything more. Don't like it - if I had the certificate my travel agent would keep a copy & I would have proof if it didn't show up on my shipboard account. I'm trying to get somebody to give me some kind of confirmation in writing, but no luck yet.

Also, not every purchase earns points. I've yet to find where it lists what doesn't, but the fine print says 'eligible purchases'. I can tell from my statements that gas stations don't count. You do get double points from RCI purchases, so just my initial 2500 point bonus & the double points from my cruise deposit were nearly enough for my reward.

I'm thinking I'll earn plenty of points just using it for RCI purchases & hopefully this certificate thing is just a startup issue. I'll let you know if I get any resolution.

Mona:

That's wierd, I get points for all my gas station purchases ( I hope they were not given in error. Also remember that it takes 6 to 8 weeks to get your coupon ( if they ever become available), so some long range planning is required to use them. This whole program is new only about 6 months old and probably still has a few issues to resolve.

MBNA is just now sending out booklets regarding the RCI Points program and it explains what is a qualified purchase and what is not, I got mine yesterday and after a quick read, all retail purchases seem to qualify, only cash advances and use of their checks do not. Use of the credit card on board to get cash advances or if you use it in the casino for gableing money also do not qualify.

If you believe they did not award the points correctly, call MBNA at the number on the back of your card and discuss it with them, I had to do this once and it was a very positive experience, although it was me who had not calculated the point s correctly and not an MBNA error.

Harry,

I was prepared to wait for my $50 credit to arrive - I'm not sailing until Feb. MBNA initiated the phone call to say the certificates weren't available & asked for my booking number. I left a message on the person's voice mail saying I was willing to wait for my certificate, but gave them the booking number anyway & asked them to let me know wat what was going to be done. I'm still trying to get confirmation as to if they are getting my credit directly with RCI, or if my certificate will eventually be mailed. I really expected to hear something back from them by now. As to the gas charges, I know I wasn't credited for them, and someone else posted right after the cards were issued that they didn't receive credit for all their purchases. Maybe that is just a start up glitch. As long as I get the double points for RCI, I'm happy, since that's probably all I'll use it for in future.

Very strange, I literally called on Saturday, August 9th, as I have about 9,700 points built up already. I called and asked for the $50 on board credit coupon. The lady gave me the # of the coupon and also said that my coupon would be in the mail and I would have it in 14 to 21 days. I called after receiving that little information booklet in the mail. It was simple as pie for me. Now, I guess I just have to hope I actually receive the coupon. ;-)

I just applied for the Royal Caribbean credit card and am awaiting approval. We want to book the Voyager as soon as possible. When i get the card, can I use it right away to put the deposit for the cruise? Do I need any certificates? Any info. would be helpful.

thanks,

spanky

Finally got in touch with MBNA. He said he had 'worked directly with RCI' and that my onboard credit was attached to my booking. He seemed reluctant to send me any written confirmation, but I pressed the issue & he agreed to ask RCI to send me something. I guess I'll have my TA check with RCI to see if its all really ok. Hope this works alot smoother in future.

Spanky:

You should b e able to use it as soon as you receive it and activate the card by calling the 1-800 Number they provide.

All:

As far as actually calling MBNA and requesting a coupon, I have not done that yet . I am waiting for the points to build up to enough for the free cruise, a free companion fare or a $500 discount coupon, whichever I need need first.

I have been using my card. In less than 30 days, I put on 8 thousand dollars. Just got back from Mexico, used it the whole time. Booked a cruise for April 24, 2004, Granduer of the Seas. Two of my friends also booked, and they gave me the cash, and I put there cruises on my card.

Our card arrived yesterday & we are using it for our Brilliance & Constellation deposits & to pay balance for cruise on Summit. Do you thin there's any chance for dbl points for celebrity expenditures as they are afilliated. TA did not know. No matter --it sounds like it will work out to be a good deal!

There is currently a zero percent promotional offer on balance transfers and cash advances. The time span of the promotional rate depends on when you get your card.

The regular rate will be 7.9% when the promotional rate expires or if you fail to make payments on time, the regular rate will be invoked as of the first day of the month in which you missed your payment or it was late.

I believe that double points are only awarded for acutal RCI bookings

I called yesterday to find out my current balance (I just paid off the cruise on 8/12) because I figured it would be over 5000 by now. They gave me an estimated balance and said I couldn't "cash in " my points until the statement posting date which will be 8/20. At that time they are going to "cash in" the points for me and send me a certificate. She said the certificate would take 6-8 weeks to arrive and at that point we could decide what to do with it (there are several options of redemption). We are leaving for the cruise on 10/12 so hopefully it will arrive in time. Otherwise it looks like we will be owning RCI bathrobes! Unfortunately they can't reapply the points once you've been issued a certificate.
