Default Grandeur/New Orleans Cruises

I am a TA, and just got the biggest pile of nonsense from a RCCL reservationist. If you are booked on this ship for a West Caribbean sailing, make sure WHERE you are going. The web site is totally wrong with times and dates. It also seems to be going to Belieze City on 5 of the NOLA sailings, BUT the departure time from NOLA to all messed up, the website says the ship departs at 7am from NOLA, but the reservationist said the ship departs at 5pm on Sat, and sails around in the MS River for almost 1 full day before hitting the open sea, which makes no sense at all when the ship can't turn around while in the MS River, and it ONLY takes 5 hrs to go from dock-open sea out of NOLA.

Can ANYone spread some light on this, or are you booked on it, and not aware of what the ship is actually doing for the first 2 days of your trip?

Darrell, I'm surprised you're just finding out about this now; these itinerary changes were "discovered" by some of us on the RCCL website a few weeks ago before they even informed the TAs. There's a very active discussion going on right now in several threads on the cruisecritic Royal Caribbean board. Basically what happened was that RCCL changed the itineraries, posted them on their website before notifying TAs or already-booked passengers, and now can't seem to give anyone who calls or e-mails them a straight answer concerning these changes. I hope you have better luck as a TA in getting the truth out of them than us "customers" have! Keep us posted on what you find out.

Do you advise as a general rule that we keep checking out our itins on websites or through TAs for any advance bookings we have? Many travelers take so much time & care to select trips for the itin & then ship--hate to have an unexpected change unless needed at sea due to conditions...

Hello All

Actually I have gotten a little bit more info on what it is the ship is doing and why.

I must address the #2 reply first, before I continue on. At this time we have been selling more CCL and NCL cruises due to NCL's GREAT itinerary and CCL's Conquest Mega ship, that RCCL got forgotten in the mix. So I did not think anything of it when we received flyers with 2 different routes on it, for the dates the ship was to be in NOLA this season. It was only when I checked the web site to find out the times, that I first had a problem then I checked the brochure for its details, and then I ended up with 3 different plans for this ship, that was when I called and got the reply yesterday, that no one could explain at RCCL what the ship was doing on the first 2 days of the cruise.

Well today someone booked that ship, with the odd itinerary, that even the client wanted to know, so I called again, and got this reason: In order for the casino to open, the ship has to be several miles from the coast line, and so it looks like the ship actually puts out to sea, then cruises around during the night, then cruises up and down the MS River on its first full day at sea, then on the afternoon of this day, it returns to sea heading to Mexico so the casino can reopen. After the reservationist told me this, I then agreed that THAT excuse made a little more sense than the ship just cruising the MS River for 20 hours before clearing the mouth of the MS River and heading to Mexico.

Maybe this helps us all figure it out.

Darrell, that reply you got today from the second RCCL reservationist makes about as much sense as the first one they gave you. You're starting to get a firsthand taste of the runaround and deception we've been getting the last couple of weeks from RCCL. If any of the Mississippi river pilots that guide the cruise ships in and out of the port of New Orleans heard that last explanation about cruising out to sea and then cruising back and forth in the Mississippi for half a day they probably wouldn't be able to stop laughing for hours. There is no way these river pilots or the Coast Guard would let a ship the size of the Grandeur cruise up and down the Mississippi and endanger its passengers as well other ships navigating this busy, congested river full of twists and turns. It sounds like RCCL is at it again with their whopper excuses instead of just not saying anything if they can't tell the truth. They even have told a few people that called to inquire about the Sunday departures of some sailings (instead of the Grandeur's usual Saturday departure) that it was so they could enjoy Saturday night's Mardi Gras parades. The clincher is that these sailings are scheduled AFTER Mardi Gras has totally ended, so I wonder what imaginary parades RCCL is referring to!

Lie, Lies and more Lies.

RCCL has been lying to me since the day back in May of this year when I booked the Granduer for a March 13th, 2004 departure to Progresso, Cozumel and Key West.

1. They never mentioned that the itinerary would change before I booked and they had to know it was coming. these changes do not nappen over nite.

2. They continued to lie to me for several months since then as I looked at their website from time to time and I saw that the original itinerary was still there.

3. I found out about the itinerary on a cruise board from some poster that had stumbled upon the truth, not from RCCL or my T/A. I check it out and the website stills shows the original itinerary-- the lies continues

4. I call my T/A, she has not heard about it either, but looks into it and a few days later confirms the changes and was very surprised about it. I double check the website and find that they have dropped all the shore excursions for Mexican ports, but still the itinerarys are not revised--the lies continue.

5. When I E-mailed RCCL asking why Progresso and Key West had been deleted from the Itinerary I had signed on for and Costa Maya and Grand Cayman substituted, their representatives from both the Crown and Anchor Society and Customer Relations, replied telling me that I was going to enjoy Costa Maya better than Progresso and quoted their published policy about changing ports anytime they wished. Neither of them have explained why Key West was dropped. I think, who the Hell are they to tell me what I will enjoy and I have been to Grand Cayman and would not have booked this cruise if I knew it was going there

6. My cruise booking verification from my T/A shows for Saturday, the 13th of March, That sail away is at 5:00 PM on Saturday. Am I being also lied to about that? I do not know and no one from RCCL with respond to the question. Are the lies continuing??

One thing that is not a lie is that I will now always look to other cruise lines first for a cruise I want. Royal Caribbean has fallen to the last place I will look.

To All

At least I tried to get an answer, and I did fine out 1 piece of news, that I have not seen posted on here, and that is the Key West itinerary is only on the Christmas sailing, that ship will not be sailing to KW anymore other than that one sailing, the reservationist could not answer why only that sailing, but he did say it was the only only like it.

To tell the truth, I have not kept up too speed on the RCCL nonsense, because we have been busy selling NCL and CCL, that RCCL was forgotten about. When we got the flyer, then I compared it too the brochure, then called them, I knew something was up, and cedided to start the message, on this board.

I hope someone soon gets on/off that ship and tells us what that ship does for the first 2 days on that trip. Nov 22, 2003 is the first of those sailings.
